Well Billy Webb, known on AZ Billiards as Spiderweb has finally received the recognition for his work that he deserves. The July-August edition of inside pool magazine has featured Billy Webb as the Cue maker of the month in their Cue Makers Corner, Written By AZ Member Fred Agnir.

Billy Webb, has worked for many years on perfecting his cue making abilities. Billy is a very humble individual who rarely tut-es his own horn, and this more than anything has prevented him from receiving the recognition he greatly deserves. Billy builds his cues along the lines and using the parabolic taper developed by David Paul Kersenbrock and also used in South West and bender Custom Cues.

Billy mostly build cues that have six points three high and three low with Veneers in most cases. However, over the last few years Billy has been perfecting Butterfly Spliced cues in addition to his six point cues. The Butterfly Spliced cues that Billy Builds are very unique and include a combination of standard points in conjunction with Butterfly points. Very few cue makers can make cues that are even similar to these Butterfly cues due to the overlapping veneers form Butterfly Splice to Butterfly splice. As I have stated above Billy is very humble and plainly states that Paul Fanellli and Kyle Van Den Bosch (Mariposa Cue Company) make the best around. Here is a direct quote made by Billy in another post concerning the two previous mentioned cue maker.

"Spider Speaks

Are Pauls glue lines better than mine?? I think they probably are and I wont tell you why. Do my points line up better than his. I think yes and again I wont tell you why. Does that make me better than him. Never. He is so far above and ahead of everyone else that he reminds me of that Shane guy that plays pool. I dont know much either but Paul may be the greatest of all time in the kinds of cues that he makes. We do things different and he gets better glue line and I may get truer points, and I will never have glue lines small as his because some things I will never change. And yes I did steal the idea from pauls cues and I have never spoken to him on the phone, ever. We did a few e-mails and thats it. I didnt ask a lot of questions because trying to figure things out is half the fun.
I also like Mariposa cues and they are in a class all alone as well. Butterfly cues take a long time to make and if you are in it for the $$ then its the wrong way to go. I think people make them because they want to not because they have to. I know I can make more $$ in half the time if I would just make 6-point cues."

Billy makes all parts of his cues except the pin and rubber bumpers, and he only uses exotic or luthier grade woods.
All I can say is congratulations Billy, I could not be happier and I certainly do not think anyone deserves it more.

Below are some photo's of Bills work, please enjoy!!!!!!!!

i wish i could

Now you know I am very liberal on cue design theft.. but I hope he calls these his PF line of cues. At least he admits he stole the design, or "idea" from Paul. But he is making more Fanelli tributes than Paul has been able to make originals.

JV (--- for the record

For the record JV, but who came up with the Butterfly Splice Cue design first? To my knowledge Paul did not invent the designs they have actually been around for almost 200 years. Billy has been building cues like this since the late 1980's, only recently has he added the over lapping Butterfly points coming down from the cues joint. I know for a fact that the technique Billy uses to build his Splice is his alone, and that it is different than the technique Paul uses. So, in the end how can anyone steal a design that no one alive can lay claim to.

You know I respect your opinion so we will have to agree to disagree.

Take Care JV

I do like the way he is using the more figured woods, such as the bocote and curly maple, as the 'canvas' for his butterfly and point work...perhaps moreso than on ebony. Makes for some very visually stimulating cues.

Thanks for posting the pics, Craig! :ok:
