Biloxi Mike Murdered!!!!

Finally, it's ruled HOMICIDE

There is some information being released later this afternoon.
It is being investigated as a homicide.

I don't think that anyone is dragging their feet, I just think
the Police are not sharing the information with us.

It hurts not to know but is also hurts to know.
We feel really bad for not only Mike's family to be living this
BS, but also the Biloxi friends they were like family.
Our love goes out to all of them and hope that there is resolution to
this soon.

I wonder if the investigating officer has read this forum, especially this thread?

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Ocean Springs Police are officially in the midst of a homicide investigation. They've been looking into the suspicious death of 54 year old Michael Surber since Thursday evening when he was found in his Ocean Springs home on Linda Dr. Authorities said autopsy results gave them the evidence they needed to rule the case a homicide.

"At this point in time we're treating this investigation as a homicide," said Lieutenant John Flowers with the Ocean Springs Police Department. "We initially began that way anyway, but its now officially a homicide investigation."

Authorities are not releasing Surber's cause of death at this time.

"We can't disclose the details of what we found," Flowers said. "But there was foul play involved."

Surber's death has been under the microscope since Thursday when his friends found his body in his Ocean Springs home. He was last seen at Skeeter's pool hall in Gulfport, and was expected to return Thursday.

Police have identified a person of interest in the case, but do not have a suspect or a known motive. They expect to release the person's name and picture later this week.

"We have not determined that person to be a suspect as we speak," Flowers said. "We're going to follow up with those and continue following up on every lead available."

Police welcome tips from the public as they continue the investigation.

"We're going to continue doing what we've done since the beginning," Flowers said. "We're going to follow up on every available lead and ask the public if they know something that has not been provided to us, please provide that to us if it will help with the investigation."

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the Ocean Springs Police Department. The number is 228-875-2211.

So far, the police have obviously been unable to located the person of interest.

Why wait to release the name and pictures of the person of interest?

Devastated

I live in the town next to Ocean Springs and have been friends with Mike for several years. I am also a police officer here and hopefully we all know why the details have not yet been released as they could be key in a conviction. Ocean Springs has an excellent investigator working on this case and it is his #1 priority...so let's trust in him to bring this scumbag in to pay for what he has done.
We in the pool world say farewell to a great player, friend and most of all one helluva good guy who worked full time for a living and could still play with the best in the world. Mike had by far one of the most powerfull strokes I have ever seen and that combined with his intelligence made him a super one-pocket player.
You will be greatly missed by many Mike and our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family...
I look forward to our rendezvous one day in that great poolroom in the sky...

You're the best-looking police officer I've ever seen, and what a bonus it is that you play pool. Thanks for sharing the information. It's great to read news from someone local.

Thanks for posting, Mike was killed 6 days ago. If pictures had been released on friday or
saturday the people of interest would have been spotted by now I think or someone would
have regonized them from somewhere.

I've known Mike for over 40 years, so I really wanted something
done days ago not in the future.

WHY are the pictures not being released?

AZ Billiards is the largest Pool forum on the internet.
It has members from everywhere, and most of the folks go into pool rooms and
bars with pool table, the people of interest will be found by this community if given
a chance.
We are many people, many many people.
Tell the guy that is looking after Mike's case, we are here to help.

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. -- The death of 54-year-old Michael Surber was ruled a homicide Sunday, Ocean Springs Police Lt. John Flowers said.

"From the beginning we thought there were suspicious circumstances," Flowers said. "After viewing the autopsy results we now think there was foul play."

Flowers declined to comment about how Surber died or a possible motive for the slaying, citing the ongoing investigation.

The lieutenant did say detectives are looking for a person of interest who was captured on surveillance video with Surber the last time he was seen alive.

Surber is shown on the video leaving Skeeter's Billiards in Gulfport Tuesday night with an unidentified man, Flowers said.

Officers found Surber's body inside his home on Linda Drive at 6:20 p.m. Thursday after Gulfport Councilman Ricky Dombrowski, owner of Skeeter's, and other friends went to Surber's home in Ocean Springs to check on him.

"Mr. Surber's car had been in the parking lot for two days without moving," Flowers said.

Once there, Dombrowski said they found the house still boarded in preparation for Tropical Storm Ida. They managed to open a window and look inside. That's when they saw their friend lying on the floor, and called police, Dombrowski said.

Surber lived alone and was an avid pool player, Flowers said.

Flowers said anyone with information should call the Ocean Springs Police Department at 228-875-2211.

Clay,

It was good hanging out with you at the house last night buddy. If anything, I hope it took your mind off of this terrible event if even for a few minutes. Hopefully the cops will find Mike's killer very soon.

If they have the person of interest's real name and his picture, they should be interrogating the person of interest.

If they haven't been able to locate him, they should release the picture and the name that they have to ask the public to help locate the person of interest.

I am sure the investigator is an excellent one but if he cannot locate the person of interest he needs to shift gears and share the name and photos. Time is of the essence.

Mike's cue sticks.

If any of Mike's cues are missing, the thief may have tried to sell them to get some cash.

The investigating officer could use AZB's valuable resource to help provide information about those cues.

It would be valuable to know if Mike's cues are missing. This would be the biggest physical trail that the thief could leave (as far as AZ Billiards is concerned) except that that lead must be followed while it is hot and that is RIGHT NOW.

If no cues are missing then it is on to the next clue. I'm sure Mike's closest friend who plays pool with him will know if any of his valuable cues are missing.

frustrated

I am also frustrated and bewildered why they can't release the name and picture of the "person of interest" so he can be outed, and why it took them 3 days to announce this was a homicide. Maybe I'm giving the police too much credit, but I have to believe there is a reason for this. Could it be that they've known all along who this individual is and just don't want to spook him? That they have had him under surveillance the whole time and waiting for him to make a "move", like trying to hock cue sticks, or something like that so they can get a search warrant, and build a stronger case against the guy? After all, all they have against him is circumstantial evidence that he was in fact with Mike when they left the pool hall. Of course to most, including me, the circumstances make it clear that this person is the culprit. Maybe they are just taking their time to build a stronger case against him. If they arrest him prematurely he may "lawyer up", and they'll get nothing else. Maybe I'm wrong and I've just read too many true crime books, or watched too many detective shows on TV, but I have to believe the cops are on this guy and he will be in custody soon.
