Biloxi Mike Murdered!!!!

Doc, tell the police about AZ Billiards and how far ranging it is. That way, they may be willing to post whatever photo they have of the perp on here. Someone may actually know the guy. Plus any other relevant information. Just like they do with bank robbers. Please let them know how well regarded Mike was in the billiard community.

If we see a photo of the perp, he will be spotted in any poolroom he walks into. I'm certain that the folks of AZ can help them apprehend this guy.

Like Jay says, the AZ Billiards community is wide spread and reaching and if the guy has hung in a pool room for any length of time or gambled, HE IS KNOWN.

HOWEVER, there are two problems. One is the cause of death. The Sheriff's Department should announce the cause of death or if they are unable to establish the cause of death, they should at least say it looked like he was bludgeoned or shot. The truth is that a vigilante hunt is not something anyone should be involved with UNLESS, Mike was killed.

If Mike was killed, the surveillance that was taken at Skeeter's Pool Room should be made available to the Main Forum (or at least a picture of the person described as Jerico, with instructions that if the person is seen to call a specific telephone number. No need to become involved in something that you aren't qualified to handle. It could be dangerous to you and other people in the area.

The investigating officer needs to have someone explain in detail what AZ Billiards is and how it can help to locate the person in question.

I read that Doc said the autopsy may be performed on Monday but they must have some information that they could share. Time is the enemy.

They have had Mike's body for at least TWO DAYS. Mike's brother arrived today and maybe he can share some information with some of the people that were close to Mike on a daily basis. Mike's brother, probably doesn't have a clue about what AZ Billiards Main Forum is let alone, what a great resource it can be in situations just like this. Maybe a close friend of Mike's can bend Mike's brother's ear and share with him how we might be able to help.

This is terrible

Mike and I were friends for many years and I never once heard him say a bad word about anyone. Every member of the pool community along the Gulf Coast know and loved Mike, he truly was a great player and a great guy. I just hope they catch the scumbag that did this.

Reading between the lines of the interview of the police officer, they are worried that Mike is well-connected in pool circles and that the pool community at large might find the perp or take some vigilante justice. I agree that vigilante justice is not the way to go, but the threat of it hanging there, in my experience, will make the police force that much more eager to solve the crime quickly. Especially if, as in this case, they have a lot of physical evidence.

It is puzzling though that they are saying the cause of death was hard to determine. Is that just intentional misdirection or is there really a big piece that we don't know about.

Saddened

I've know Mike for several years, never heard him speak ill of anyone, we played one-pocket and shared several meals and great conversations. He was a gentleman one and off the felt and played a great game of one-hole. He will be sorely missed by those who knew him. When he was out of work after Katrina he spent a lot of time in Chattanooga where we became friends "what a great guy"! We should all say a prayer for him he was a great ambassador to the game.

My friend has a brother that is a Ocean Springs police officer. I called him today and he immediatley called his brother to see if he could find anything out for me. He told me that his brother had actually talked to the investigator before our phone call and all he knew was that he wasn`t shot or stabbed. Since he wasn`t one of the officers that responded he didn`t know anymore or ask any other questions. He asked his brother to get me any information that he could. So hopefully he can get some information that he can tell me. If i find anything out i will post it.

Post up the video footage of this guy

Even if we don't know its a murder for sure.. we should still be wary of this guy, he could be in my pool hall tomorrow possibly ready to do it again.

the sooner that picture is up the safer we all are, and the closer to finding this guy we'll get.

Steve and the rest of the Surber family know about AZ, and are
thankfull for the kind words said by so many.

As of now there are more questions then answers.
There is a group of Mike's friends meeting tomorrow to talk about
what has happened.
When Steve gives us any information we will share it with the forum.
But as of now, there is no new information being released.

Maybe it's just me, but it feels like they're dragging their feet on this one. I feel like they should be exhausting all resources to find this guy who everyone says was with Mike on the night in question. I guess I want to see something happening and I don't. They HAVE to know by now that this is a murder and not a suicide. It shouldn't take an autopsy to figure that out. In most cases like this, the detective on scene and the medical examiner can say whether it was a homicide or not.

I truly hope that this is not a case of a small town police department blowing it. DNA, fingerprints, video, C'MON! Three days later and still nothing. I want to know why are they stalling, when the perps are getting farther and farther away.

I totally understand your reasoning, Jay. It hurts big time to sit back and wait, wondering WTF is going on.

I do know that in the Florida child murder cases in recent times, the police may have flubbed up by releasing TOO MUCH information to the public.

On the other hand, I'd love to see this showcased on Nancy Grace. She's a Southern gal with a whole lot of media power, and her show reaches a lot of households.

If they have a picture of this guy's truck and/or a picture of him from a videotape, it would be a good idea to publicize it, IMO.

One thing for sure, I can guarantee you that this guy is long gone from that area and is laying low.

Good job Jay in your investigating this horrible tragedy! I am sure his family and friends will appreciate it.......Nicely done.

Another piece of information that I just heard is that the video surveillance at Skeeter's showed the PERSON OF INTEREST driving Mike's car back to the pool room's parking lot and getting out of that car into his own vehicle.

If this is correct, I cannot figure any good reason for the PERSON OF INTEREST to be driving Mike's car back to the pool room, WITHOUT MIKE IN THE CAR, and leaving it there.

The police should release the video to the public so that the PERSON OF INTEREST can be identified.

The police could issue a picture or video and include their telephone number. Not trying to do the police department's job, but it is sure frustrating to sit here and not knowing anything that the police are doing.

With them not providing any information, it appears that they aren't doing much which I'm sure isn't the case, but it just looks like it. The police could at least tell us if Mike's cue collection is missing or not. If his cue collection is missing this would practically guarantee that there was foul play. I'm sure some of Mike's close friends would know how many cues he had in his collection.

I wish the Coroner's office would publish their findings ASAP.

I phoned Lt. Flowers of the Ocean Springs police dept. on Friday to tell him I could definitely identify the suspect. He has not returned my call. I'll phone again tomorrow to let him know about the network of pool websites, and to suggest posting a photo or an artist's composite for everyone to see.

My best guess is that the authorities are keeping a tight lid on this case until they have some factual evidence from the autopsy. The local speculation is that Mike was bludgeoned from the rear. I don't know what else could have caused the profuse hemorrhaging from the mouth.

As soon as anyone knows anything concrete, it'll be posted on the websites.

They will not publish anything. Family members and law enforcement will be the first and only ones to know unless they make it public, which will happen. I have known our local coroner for 20 years and my mom has worked in the office that long. If indeed foul play is found then the media will pick it up because the local police will most likely announce it.

Did the Ocean Springs Police Department say that Lt. Flowers is the investigating officer in this case?

Please Doc, stay all over these guys. Let them know that Mike had many friends who are very concerned about this case. We want to know what is going on and what is being done to find the criminals behind Mike's death. And we want to help if possible.

There's no doubt in my mind that they'll get plenty of fingerprints left by this guy. There was also surveillance video of him in the bar and, I assume, pictures of his rig from the parking lot. However the rig could've been stolen.

The Ocean Springs and Gulfport police are working together on this, along with the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation. If this guy is the murderer, then they'll have plenty of evidence to identify him; but whether they'll ever find him is another story.

It's my understanding that the autopsy will be performed on the body on Monday. I'm sure they'll bring in outside talent for the exam. The police have released no information about the crime yet. We're hoping that there will be an announcement about their findings this week.

Doc

Hopefully the COPS will catch the guy, and he will pay for his crime.

getting shot in the chest is abot the only other way. so your speculation sonds accurate. Even a shot to the skull dosent typically cause such a response. Its difficult to talk about when its your friend

This guy has got to be pretty easy to find IMO- Im just wondering if he might already be in custody on another charge. The cops just dont seem that frantic to catch him. That could be one explanation.

There is some information being released later this afternoon.
It is being investigated as a homicide.

I don't think that anyone is dragging their feet, I just think
the Police are not sharing the information with us.

It hurts not to know but is also hurts to know.
We feel really bad for not only Mike's family to be living this
BS, but also the Biloxi friends they were like family.
Our love goes out to all of them and hope that there is resolution to
this soon.
