Black King Tips Reviews

pretty good

the BK hard that's on my cue is just now ready for trimming the mushroom(been using it to break with, also),still playing real well and,the young man that got the soft doesn't really like soft tips but he gives it a thumbs up for a soft tip and wants to leave it on a while longer

Thats a shaper from uniqueinc.com
its made to fit on a cue companion lathe but its kinda easy to make it work on any lathe.

Its adjustable for different radius by moving your toolpost forward and backward

Those are good quality break away knives, I have one just like It around here somewhere, I use to use one when I helped my buddy run painting crews. I think we use to buy them a Sherwin Williams. I've never tried trimming tips with it though, but they certainly are very sharp. I imagine they probably cut leather very well. the blades are thicker then the el cheapo break aways. The frame is also made from steel instead of plastic. I don't completely freehand when I trim though, I brace My utility knife against the top of my tool post while trimming the sides for better control, so the rubber handle may not work as well for me the way I do it. I have a flatter alloy bodied utility knife that works well for me, but maybe I'll give that one a try sometime.

I really like the black blades, they seem sharper than the standard.
I like the olfa knife because the blade is so tight in the knife, I've tried a whole bunch of different knives but I seem to go back to that one, I also like to just expose a little less than one segment of the blade, theres no chatter of the blade that way,

I didn't recognize the name brand at first when you mentioned It in this thread, but after seeing It in the video, I remembered It, and that I had one of them. It was the best of It's kind that I could find locally back when I use to use them.

Coincidentally, I saw you have some of the older APA trophies on your top shelf. I have a long shelf up high in My shop much the same, have some of the same trophies up there too, and that's where They all stay just collecting wood dust. My bench sticks out a ways making It harder to reach up there, and so I only put stuff on that shelf that I don't have to get at very often. They don't give out the old style trophies here anymore. The last 4 or 5 I got were those bronze painted plaster jobs. It's about time for something a little different.

If I can find what I did with that knife I'll have to give it a try. I haven't tried the black blades yet, thanks for the tip. I don't know that I have ever even seen them, but it was probably 10 years or more ago when I used them, so I don't remember if they had them back then or not. The handle looked the same though with the yellow rubber grip.

Those black blades have been around for a couple years at least, i think they are called LBB blades.
Those stupid trophies are going to go bye bye on my nexgt cleaning session in my little work area, I just added a TV over the lathe so I had to move a bunch of stuff that I use, those trophies are only around so the few, non "real" players that come over for cue work can see that the guy fixing their stick knows a little something aboujt pool :)
The trophies are from our local vnea league and another edmonton league, we dont have a TAP league here, they started giving out those plaques here too, all the trophy shops push the same stuff, sotra like all us cue guys :D

I think they just get whatever the trophy venders give them the best deal on.

My shop is small and I have always done pick up and delivery work so nobody really sees them. most of the people I do work for have plenty of their own, so It wouldn't impress them much anyhow. They have far lost any meaning with me though. Maybe 1 or 2 of the earlier ones have meaning, because I won them with My father when he was still alive, but other then that the rest are dust collectors. Some people take the amateur stuff way too seriously, and it's easy to get caught up in that when you want to help Your teammates win. I mostly only play for the social aspect, although getting out and playing is good for business. I'm taking a couple of sessions off right now, and I have seen a difference in My work load as a result of that. I think where I get any actual enjoyment is from hanging out with friends, and new players that I mentor. They usually really want a trophy, and are excited when they see their game improving, and helping them to get their first one kind of takes me back to the first time I was on a team that won, and just the old fond memories in general. I suppose I'm turning into a old fart reliving My youth through others:embarrassed2::p

guys your talk about blades deserves its own thread :) Good info which one would hardly look for in tip reviews topic.

I gave a quick testing to Medium and Soft, installed Hard but hit only several shots with it so far. What can I say, both M and S grip the cue ball so good that is spins like crazy. Very good English transfer. Soft tip doesn't feel like soft actually, the cue I set it on is stiff, so it might add the feeling too, but the sound and the feel of the hit is pretty firm, so I would call it MS. I ran some racks with it and felt comfortable with cue ball control.

Just caught this thread and I am interested to know what kind of CHALK was used on the reviews of this tip and if anyone tried different chalks with the tips. (Masters, Blue Diamond, Magic, Kamui, etc...)

Thanks!

Hi Russ:
I use Masters, I chalk every shot as a rule but not just to chalk, To take a breathe, and look over the table, maybe see something I didn't see before.

anyone try these on a 314-2? I'm thinking either the M or H, since the predator doesn't have a very stiff hit at all

I know how much I said that I liked the Soft but I have been using a Med on a back up cue. I'm starting to take a shine to this one as well.

I do have a couple of Pred shafts but haven't tried a BK on either yet.
They are great tips so I would imagine they would spruce one of those up nicely.

Black King Tips

First let me say that delivery of them was lightning fast...!!! To do a compairison,I installed a soft on one cue and a med. on another. I must say say that i was impressed in the way that they moved the ball around the tbl. They held chalk well, they held english very well. I haven't had time to put a lot of hours on them but from what i've seen so far they seem to be a very good tip. I also have a hard but have not yet tried it out, however if it plays anything like the med. and soft I think we have a winner. I personally prefer the med but I think it would depend upon the type of hit that your looking for as to what hardness you would use.I give them a thumbs up...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Black King Tips

I have known Robert for over 20 years and have always found him to be very up front with everything he has been involved with in the billiard industry - so I was delighted to find that HE was the source for the Black King tips - I purchased over 100 on my initial order that is how well I feel they perform, and from what Robert told me they are "Made in America".

Robert is a great guy to deal with, very fast response and shipping. Not to mention the great quality of his product. It was also nice to have met you at the SBE.
Thanks Frank

tip

First of all I want to apologize for taking for long to install the tip. You gave me a freebe medium at the SBE show.

I finally put it on my playing cue and I like it. It installed easily and cut easily.

I don't chalk every shot and It still gets good draw even after 3 or 4 shots without chalking.

I will be buying some..

Thank you

Kim

I put the med and the soft on two house cues at a local pool hall.
had everyone i could get to run them through the mill and after three months of abuse they still play great and have kept their shape.
If they can take that abuse and still play like the day I put them on it is a product that I need in my inventory.
Ordered 60 tips last night for stock.
Thank you for an outstanding tip.
