Blackjack and the "T" drill.

When you look at the T drill in David's book it doesn't look all that hard, but when you try it its a different story. You really have to move the rock a certain way to move through the drill. Here is a link to the video of the T drill. Its one of many drills in Lessons in 9 ball.

Oh! I thought it was that Blackjack was going to "drill" someone whose first name begins with "T"! My bad...

The video isn't the greatest - the balls look like they were all the same color - anyway - this is how the balls are set up. This is a real good drill to practice close position - and BTW Sean... I was never in danger of touching that 9! lol

youtube is blocked at work:) I figured it was due the numbered layout Blackjack posted I am looking for drills for cueball control as that is my weakest skill. shot making is usually not a problem but I seem to constantly overshoot or undershoot my spot I am trying to get too for the next shot. This is my next project for myself in becoming a better player.

The balls are set up so that you have to get position in a number of different ways. I believe the shot from the one to the 2 is the most difficult, followed by the shot from the 4 to the 5.

The balls are not reversed, they are set up in two groups of 3

3-4-5 & 6-7-8

Each ball set starts with the lowest numbered ball closest to the rail.

I don't think that makes it easier or harder. I just know that this drill challenges you to be extremely accurate with your cue ball. If you're not - you'll pay for it.

I am glad that I found this drill in this thread. I have a tournament in 2 weeks on bar tables and i have a nine footer at the house. I was looking for some drills that focus on short cue ball movements with precision as this is what will keep you from running out on a bar table. This drill will help with that I believe.

One of the hardest parts of this drill is having to re set the balls if you get out of line.You need someone to help?

I was a little disappointed with this drill, either that or im getting better than I think. I tried at home during lunch. First attempt I ran out, got a little out of line on the 7 and had sharp cut on it, made it sent CB 4 rails for position and finished the last two balls, all balls in the closest pocket. My second attempt was flawless, perfect postion and speed control on every shot, the cue ball never traveled more than 2 feet to get on the next shot and never got out of line. After that I was like, "well this is to easy I going to play the ghost." Was running out from every where.

This was on my Diamond Pro Am
Im not bragging or anything, just I was surprised, I thought for sure I would screw up something for at least two or three tries. Nope didnt happen, never missed a shot and almost never missed position. I still think its a good drill though.

This is a great read with a TON of good info . Now I am just praying for the willingness to do those drills :wink: The T drill is just a tease compared to some of the others .
