Blame your family...

I will never understand why people take shots at their own family blaming their own kids, and love of their life for the reason they can't play.

I mean to say "I can't play because I have a family and kids..."

This blame your family game is sick...STOP IT. You just aren't ever going to be as good as you think you should be ok..

Funny thing is, I'll bet some of the people that say this deranged crap, would also if given the option trade their family's in for pool balls...

What are you talking about, people sacrifice for their family all the time that is just reality. They stay in jobs they hate because they need the security, go without things they would have if they didn't have responsibilities of a family. And yes if caught at the right time and in the right frame of mind may have some resentments.

They are in a backhanded way saying, "If they were irresponsible and selfish like many of the people who do nothing but play pool they could be a better player". It is most likely true. It is not an excuse it is the truth. If they didn't have anything else to think about they could be better pool players.

"But",
would they really trade their lives and families for the life of most pool players? People who pretty much have nothing, no health insurance, no real relationships and are for the most part parasites who will borrow from anyone dumb enough to lone them money. Beg for sponsors to play in tournaments because they won't put up their own money.

I would say they are content to just remain a "B" player as they spend the weekend with their kids at the beach or out fishing on their boat and if one of them gets sick they can actually go to a doctor. They may at times show a frustration but don't take it literally, they would not trade.

Idk. Most people I've known who blame their job, family, whatever...when they find themselves laid off andduvorced their fame gets worse. And then they blame 'stress'. But wait! Wasn't it the 'stress' of their job/family too?

I know I don't play as good as if I played more. No duh. But I think it's a cop out to blame things for it. I made my choice and when I play I play my hardest. No excuses. If I wanted to be the best player in the world I would have pursued that instead of a family. I'm not too bright but even I know if you want to be the best you have to make sacrifices for it.

I have blamed my woman a couple of times. :)
One time she needed a ride to a party so I had to take 2nd place in a tournament. Everyone, laughed pretty hard.
Another time she called me to ask how the pool was going. The phone went off in the middle of the stroke, I missed the 8 lost the match.
My answer was - ' well it was good until about now, but thanks for asking'. :)

Would it be different if 'blame' was replaced by 'prioritize'?

To the listener, yes. To the speaker, no.

Pool (for most) is a dead-end street, finnacially speaking. If you can't hack it, tough shit. Your family is way more important than a game. Blame yourself, not your responsibilities as a father, husband, wife, daughter or son. Why would someone say such things? Hmmm.... People are sick and twisted I tell ya! I may be rude, obnoxious, controversial and biased on here. But when it comes to those I love, they get me in my purist and most loving form.

I agree with this, it basically fits me to tee. I am also realistic that I am only ever going to be so good at this game, that's ok.
Other people, with more natural ability, can put in the same time and reach "A" level. About the only blame anyone should cast on their game is not practicing enough but I suppose, if they are casting blame at all, they probably think they are better than they actually are.

Jamsion, here is my normal day, maybe you can help me find time to practice.

7am: wake up
7:15am: actually get out of bed, take a shower, get ready for work.

8:25am: at train station that takes me to manhattan
9am: at work
7pm-8pm: leave work, go to daycare and pick up my daughter
9:30pm: get home from work, cook dinner.
10pm: wife gets home from work.
11pm: put my daughter to bed, read books and sing songs
11:30pm-7am:free to do (A), (B), (C), (D)

(A) watch tv, drink a beer and pass out
(B) get freaky with the wife and pass out
(C) just pass out
(D) take the hour long trip to the pool room, play for an hour, take the hour+ long trip back. pass out for 3 hours and then do it again.

Why not just do what I did?

Get your family to play pool. Then you can all practice together, and your helping them solidifies what you've already got going on.

Spoken like a single person. If you're not...maybe you're a newlywed. If you're not...you're family probably wishes you hung around more.

Wish I could have that schedule

Monday-Thursday I'm at work from 630pm-630am. I get up at 4pm to get ready for work, leave at 530pm and I am home at 715am. Then I take the kid to school and if I am lucky I can take a shower and be in bed by 830am to do it all over again.

Get off work Friday or Saturday morning at 630am where if I want to play I can either take a short nap and be at the hall by 11am or I usually just don't go to sleep so I make sure to be there at 11am so I can play for 3-4 hours. I usually make time to play Friday, Saturday and Sunday for a few hours in the afternoon, but never all day and all night.

with the attitude you display here i take it you are not married or have children. i started playing pool when i was young but quit when i started raising my children. i happily chose to neglect pool instead of my family. i dont blame them, it was my choice, they were my priority. when it came to choice of going to my sons t ball game or a pool tournament the choice was easy to make.

now that i am single and my kids are grown i can devote time to playing pool again. i play on 5 different teams now. when i look back on my life i dont regret one minute spending time with my family instead of a pool hall.

if you cant understand some one saying those words ( i cant play because i have a family ) i pity you.
