I know everyone have them, but most of us maybe shy to talk about it. Here is your chance.
Me?
I had a back injury and I can't practice more than hour a day right now. Also I run my own, small buisness that takes lots of time.

Well, I have degenerative bone disease, had my back broke and a severe head injury in 1977, and arthritis is eating on me like a kid on a candy cane... other than that, everything is just dandy! :)

Seriously, When I'm on, I don't think very many are better shotmakers than I, but the damn nerves get me more than anything else.

Endurance is a bit of a problem. I quit playing for 14 years... I mean I didn't even so much as pick up a cue for a friendly game for the entire 14 years. I started back playing at 45 (just turned 49 a week ago) and I just don't have the endurance I used to possess. I won't even think about playing an "ahead set" these days.

I've found ways around the physical ailments, but the nerves (better now than they were last year) and the endurance are really my biggest stumbling blocks. Wish I'd never laid the cues down, but Such is Life. I'll just go forward from here, try to overcome the nerves and get in better physical condition and hope someone starts up a new Seniors Tour in a few years! :D

Later,
Bob

excuses, U have em all!

I've had 4 shoulder surgeries, 4 knee suregeries, broke all my fingers, my nose has been broken 4 times, shot once, stabbed once, I eat too much, i drink too much, and my girlfriend tells me what to do! Thats the truth.
None of that has anything to do with it.
I miss too many balls.

Ya know, I have this problem that keeps me from being able to take the cover off my table in the basement to reacquaint myself with the daily 3 hours of drills I used to do.

I think it's called stupidity or laziness.

Naaaahhhh...

My excuse is -- I enjoy spending time with my wife and my other hobbies too much to devote the time to do boring drills over and over again...

I don't think that qualifys, you just don't care, thats a different story I think.

I did not put in enough practice; have the correct mentor, proper instruction and/or competition between the ages of 14 – 21 (I started about 18 but still lacked some of the above). So therefore my foundation is weak. Pool is and always will be a second language to me.

well i had back surgury,My shoulders & back always hurt.My Liver is shot but I still play almost everyday.I am not looking to be a pro but just to have fun and improve my skills so i can beat 90% of the people around me.

Are you sure? Sounds like a good excuse to me...I could give up everything an practice 12 hours a day and become good...maybe:D

I wouldn't say I don't care, I enjoy playing pool. I would like to be better just like everyone else on here. I also want to spend time with my wife, hunt, ride my motorcycle, shoot sporting clays, go to my cabin in Texas etc...

The lack of a stroke, talent, ability and knowledge has severely and unjustly hampered my unrelenting march towards mediocrity.

I understand where are you coming from, however to become a champion you must practice a lot, unless you got natural talent.
I assumed that everyone who will post it here has motivation and put an effort to achieve that goal, but there are some obstructions on its way.
In your case you just choose not to do that because, lkie you said you spending your time with wife and stuff.

I refuse to allow a game to become more important that my family, home, or work. I cannot allow a recreational game interfere with any of these.

That is a very good decision and I have all the respect in the world for it.
To many, there is nothing recreational, and to many, it has never been a game.

I don't have any excuses. I loved the game. I played at least 50 hours a week in my early years. I wanted to be as good as anyone that held a cue. Somehow all of that changed after being on the road. I went back to work (not that I had to) but it was a good decision. Having a stable income was great it just made me play even better. At the height of my pool playing career, I just quit playing.

Why? Long story but I have enjoyed my time and more of what life has to offer. My guess is, I wasn't cut out to be a hard core life time pool player (I was hard core). I took the game back up after 17 years but the magic just wasn't there. It sure was fun while it lasted though.:D

Now I just dabble. I get those moments of brillance but I know I'll never get there again. I just settle for what the game gives me now. WTF this game is a pain in the ass!

I think that makes perfect sense!
Do we ask people who love following the NFL to go out and train 5 nights a week? If you love the game, you can still enjoy the occasional hit and enjoy watching the great players fight for glory.

This forum is not just for pros and aspiring pros, or even just those who aspire for improvement. It can be those who appreciate watching and talking about different aspects of the game.
