I see Bobby Hunter is having (or had) a nice showing in the Hard Times event. He must be getting a little up in years. Anyone know how old he is? Mid fifties? I suppose he's still living in Carson City.

Bobby Hunter grew up in Grand Rapids Michigan, home of the late, great Harold Worst. He started playing pool in 1969 at the age of 16, a few years too late, unfortunately to get a chance to see Worst play.
yes, Steve your info is correct. i've known him for about 36 years and i only have him by a few months.sde said:If this info is correct. he would be 54.

You're right on about Hunter. A quality guy, and lethal on the green baize. I always wanted to buy one of his poles, but didn't have the bucks. That's interesting that you helped him get started in NV. He had a real nice room in Carson City, but there's probably not a lot of pool action in Nevada's capitol.jay helfert said:Bob's a great guy and a straight shooter in all ways. He also makes fine cues. If he tells you your cue is coming in six months, you can count on it. He doesn't have a devious bone in his body.
I couldn't agree more..If there were a couple of million more like Bobby at the top, pool wouldn't be in the shape it's in..jay helfert said:Bob's a great guy and a straight shooter in all ways. Years ago I sent Bobby back East to play in some tournaments and he did real well. I vaguely recall him winning one of them, beating some great player (Buddy?) in the finals. Unlike some players who will remain nameless, Bobby called me after the tournament and asked me if I wanted him to send a check or use Western Union. That blew me away, that he called the day after the tournament and was concerned about repaying me. I told him just to wait until he gets home and we can settle up then. And he did exactly that.
One other story about Bobby I'll share. When he and his wife Julie opened a poolroom with Kelly Simpson in Nevada nearly 20 years ago, they were short of money. They called me and asked for a loan. With only a promise and nothing on paper, I sent them a considerable amount of money. Bob promised to repay me in one year.
A year later he calls me and tells me the check is on the way, and it was. With interest.

He played in all the qualifying events but didn't make it through. But he hung around the One Side club with his stakehorse and matched up with quite a few players there. But he must have left town before you arrived.
