Going to be using a hard maple shaft.

My question is whats better as far as response, hit, etc. Thanks :D

Also: What joint would be the best overall joint as well..
1. Schmelke brass to brass joint
2. 5/16"dia. 18tpi Brass pin & Insert
3. 3/8"dia. 10tpi Wood to Wood

Thanks for the help in advance

It all depends on how the cue is constructed and who is playing with it........

Ask 10 different people and get 10 different answers....

oic... well for what its worth im getting a schmelke M-series. if that helps hopefully

so the wood truly doesnt really matter o.O?

i think ima toss me a 12.5mm tip on that thing too opposed to a 13mm :D

ive heard fantastic things about bocote, its hit, response, etc. but the look of it from what ive seen is so "hit or miss" sometimes its the best wood ive ever seen sometimes its just disgusting.

I would not go with the large brass joint. Either the 5/16-18 with insert or the 3/8-10 would be fine. Those are the two of the most popular feeling type of joints. If you can get them to use a wide grain lighter weight Bocote piece that would be my choice over the East Indies Rosewood. But both play fine, it is just a matter of finding the right density pieces.

Request wider grain as it can't hurt to ask. Also ask about stainless steel pin instead of brass pin.

You asked a question and got your answer. Along with your answer, you also got a couple of other hints in which way to go re pins to help you find that elusive response and hit that you seek.
Then you respond to Chris that the SS pin is a 10 dollar upgrade as if to say that altho you are looking for the specific characteristics in a cue that you want, you also want it cheap.

If you ask advice and want 100% true answers from people that know what they are talking about, you should take the advice you get even if it does cost you an extra 10 dollars.

Seems to me that if you care to bother asking the question in the first place, you should take that advice and run with it. Otherwise, why bother asking.

Chris suggests that you ask for wide grain Bacote and you respond by saying that you will take whatever Bacote that Schmelke gives you. Why bother asking.

10 dollars doesn't buy you 2 beer any longer and where I am, its one hr table time. If a 10 spot means that much to you, you shouldn't be dabbling in custom cues. Wally World has what you are looking for.

Bocote with G10 pin, threaded phenolic collar with 3M Dp460 epoxy, old growth maple handle , threaded butt sleeve with noise suppressor and orange bushka bumper at 19 oz will hit better imho.
Ivor-X ferrule and Kamui S black would be nice too.

The guy is looking to buy a simple $100 cue. You just confused the heck out of him. LOL.
Hopefully the OP has had enough attention with two separate threads running on buying a $100 cue.

I would say im sorry but i feel u misinterpreted my responses and maybe i didnt exactly word them how i meant them so for that i apologize.

when you say "you shouldnt be dabbling in custom cues," im not.

that was the point of my response to requesting wider grain bocote. im just buying their standard "M-series model 040" and so im pretty sure schmelke wont be asking me what kind of specific grain i want, ill probably get something more along the lines of "whats the next slab of bocote in line." by no means do i not appreciate his info as u seem to suggest.

I'm aware that i sound cheap, frugal, etc. Which i am... im a college student, im broke with student loans etc, but i do enjoy the game and want to improve and i realize i should probably upgrade from using house cues. in the same breath, because i might not be spending >$200-500 like some users for a cue it doesnt mean that i shouldnt try and get the best value for my money.

ive been researching for probably a couple of weeks now looking through virtually every component of a cue trying to figure out what exactly will suit me and give me what im looking for but i still had some questions.

as for my "thats a $10 upgrade" comment, that was more of a "would it be worth the extra $10" than it was supposed to be an insult.

there have been numerous members that have helped me get to where i am now as far as my selection, and for them i am grateful.

Just buy the damn cue already. You are starting to sound like a 8 year who can't decide between chocolate and vanilla ice cream.
It's a $100 cue !
