I'm surprised you haven't mentioned Dave Matlock getting on the Bonus Ball locomotive. :grin-square:
First and foremost, I'm happy for the pro players if they're getting a payday. If Bonus Ball takes off, it will be the change agent for pool that's long been needed.
I felt the same way when Hilton Hotels tried to create a tour for the pro players. They held two tournaments, and due to lack of interest, not only from the public, but the participation of the pro players being miniscule, they folded up like lawn chair. I think Shawn Putnam won the Pittsburgh event that had hardly any spectators and less than 40 competitors, if memory serves me right. That was the end of the Hilton Pool Tour.
Most who read this forum with any regulatory are familiar with Kevin Trudeau and the International Pool Tour (IPT). Kevin had deep pockets and spared no expense to get the IPT going, giving BCA Hall of Famers who hadn't picked up a stick in decades a free gift of $30,000 just to make a cameo appearance in Orlando (December 2005). Kevin Trudeau had deep pockets, but apparently, they weren't deep enough. After approximately $3 million, I surmise, or more, he also ended the best thing that ever happened to pool in my lifetime. There was no return on investment, and the American pool culture that wasn't involved with the IPT seemed to have strong opinions how bad Kevin Trudeau was as a person, and they verbally tarred and featured him on this forum on a daily basis. This, after pouring in $3 million into pool for the pro players, trying to make something happen.
Now in 2012, we have the Bonus Ball. The only thing I have to say is that I hope Larry has deep pockets and can weather the storm. Meanwhile, those pro players who are on board the Bonus Ball locomotive today will at least earn a living doing what they do best. I wish them a long and comfortable ride.
And I hope Larry's pockets don't run dry.
