Larry made an agreement with the players to go play any where they wanted. It is a team league and a team can play without one of there players. That is really fair of him!
Why he set the date to January was his believe that this contractor would be true to his word. When he did it, they looked like they were working their butts off. i don't know how or where they hit the wall but they did. Larry is a easy going and trusting guy! He also wanted to get the league running asap because he cares for the players. He never came to town to strong arm contractors or to by-pass any county laws.
It was I who pointed out that moving the start date past the Derby was a good move and that many of the players on this forum might appreciate that. I have no idea what is arrogant about that. You can twist my words any way you want I guess but here is the fact, he agreed to skip past the Derby. I applaud him for that. It is good for fans and good for the top players.
February the 7th is the starting date now.

Thats a big deal and I don't think many people know about it at all.
yes justin i remember that match and that was out of your control. but you were honest and upfront and done the right thing when i came to that. i am not as smart as barry or have the funds he has but at work i always consider what i call a fudge factor and if not your just setting yourself up for failure in my book i have seen it happen way to many times and this is starting to look like one of them..i am sure we will hear lots of views at the dcc i cant wait. if he was a smart business man he would go and promote it there because from now till when bb starts i doubt you will have as many players/fans in the same venue for a week as there.
That's a fair point. As a general rule, if you're engaged in marketing, probably most of all on forums, then you need a thick skin and the ability to reply to everything politely and positively. Your goal is not to win debates, but to win support (even if you could or should have won the debate). I've definitely seen the former from various BB folks, including VBPP, but I really don't see it in this instance.
Do you know when the new schedule will be posted so the rest of the world has an idea when "your" players will be free?
I think is a great idea.
Watchez mentioned the same thing in a thread awhile back. Get a Bonus Ball booth at the Derby. Have the guys playing the game and showing it to people. Walk around wearing the jerseys, the whole nine yards. It would be all people are talking about. End every sentence with MILLION DOLLAR PRIZE FUND!!!
Thats how I would do it.
Edit to add: I just remembered that I am one of those promoters who do the same thing over and over again getting nowhere so I will leave this one to the pro's.

Maybe I'm just confused, but as you have stated several times: Larry wanted to have a start date of January, and would have had the contractors had not "hit the wall" and delayed the construction completion. So, had the construction delay not occurred, the start date would have been in January and would have conflicted with the DCC. Your words.
Summary: The later February starting date has nothing to do with Larry being kind and considerate of the DCC promoters, the players, the fans, or not wanting to have a scheduling conflict, it's simply that there is no choice in the matter and you are trying to make it appear otherwise. Disingenuous.

you may be a promoter who has got nowhere but i remember driving back and forth from the dcc because i live a hour away and when i got home if a great match was getting ready to start i would get right back in the car and drive back for another 2 days thanks to you for making the steam available. look how many others have jumped on board. it is a great thing what you have done to promote the game and action the way you do. the podcast is great also. you and mark are great for the game!! i wish you guys at tar the best of luck i am sure it has had its up and dawn and more downs than ups probably but your time is due..
I have a question too. We know that BB paid the players the last time because there was a delay and everyone seemed to agree that this was the right thing to do as it wasn't the players fault. So my question now is why not pay them this time as it it a delay that was not their fault? What is the difference? I know VP said "Larry has given the players enough cash" If I was at work and they had to close for a month I know I would still get paid.
I always answered peoples question politely and fairly. Many others have posted on behalf of Bonus Ball. I guess I must be responsible for those posts to?

whats right with pool
Pool is like MMA. The base MMA sport for the UFC is wrestling, and there are hundreds of thousands of wrestlers who participate in that sport from HS and college teams, let alone all the people who practice BJJ, Muay Thai.......
The biggest problem is pools amateur base has no interest in watching pro's play. Is a 3 pocket rotation game gonna get fans watching? Only way to get people to watch anything in America is prize money. Even if you do that how long will the product last? Look at the instant millionaire gameshows, how many seasons do they run? And that is people picking breifcases or throwing a ping pong in a pint glass 5 feet away. Gameshows take little skill. Pool takes too much skill to play great. Just like golf....lets look at golf. Gold and pool are a photo finish for boring to spectators. Millions play them, few watch them. But Golf solved this. Non-golf playing people only started watching Golf when the tour sold an asian guy as black to the US market/public.
Here is an instant fix for Bonus Ball. Put Charlie Williams on a Bonus Ball team. Market Charlie Williams as being black. Fix a bunch of early Bonus Ball matches with Industrial Light and Magic to get him some wins with incredible shots. ESPN top ten highlights when Charlie runs a table of Bonus Ball with one stroke while using a hockey stick as a pool cue. Make the prize money $100,000 for each week. Within a week the Nike and Asian money will be like a tsunami to your venture. You will be on ESPN before the first season run of Bonus Ball is over.
This place is very critical of anything pool related. Delaying your product is not helping on here. I thnk you should hire JCIN as your PR firm. If you enact Operation Charlie Williams I would like 15% of your Bonus Ball gross for the next 3 years.

Certainly he could have scheduled to start before February 7th, that is not a correct statement sir.
I will repeat, we always stated players could play in the Derby or anything else if they desired to. So whether the launch date was Jan. 3rd date or February 7th...they could play in the Derby. Now it has been made rather simple.

Jeeziz, make some fLlCKING LEMONADE out of that buttsects!
Get those players with whom you have agreements to earn their $$ and add value to Bonus Ball. Those players should be going to- screw going to, they should be directed to- go to pool rooms, tourneys, rec centers...out there introducing the game to people and expanding the market for the product. Hell, how many would love to be assigned to go to their hometowns and promote their employer's product?
I can't help but agree somewhat with the 'gang who couldn't shoot straight' analogy.
Ok, so lets say that Archer, HAtch and Daulton all want to play at the US Open 10 ball or 2 or 3 players from each team want to play at DCC? I know there is one alternate but it does not make a full team available to play. So what do you intend to do in that situation? Youy would have to tell certain players that they can't play right? Not expecting an answer here because I thinbk I may have just exposed your plan.
I have to say its been a minute since a non DerekDisco post made me really laugh out loud. That one did it.
Only one player from each team that is scheduled to play will be able to attend. That is if the alternate agrees to play and not go to the other tournament right?? So not all players are "Allowed" to play any other event they want. Again, what do you plan to do in this situation?
I'm not Barry but my impression is that when the US Open 10 ball is going on this year the bonus ball schedule will be down to the final four teams. So everyone else is done. This is assuming there is not some delay or schedule change.
I dont expect anyone on those final teams will play the 10 ball because they are in the money at that point and it would be silly to pass it up.
You have a good point about what if two or even three players on a team want to play something else that week. I am curious how that would work.
I don't think we will get a straight answer on this question. He has been hiding behind "Any player can play anything he wants, unless it hurts bonus ball" Like you said down to 4 teams isn't gonna make a difference. Good thing the delays were there I suppose or this would have been a problem with TS, DCC and US Open 8 & 10.
