It's clearly very skillful, but only time will tell if the game captures our imagination. I'd suggest keeping an open mind here.

exabition

I saw one exabition match back at the US Open. I would like to see more of that at say, Derby City type of event. They could have it set to stream and get some more viewers live.

I'll try to keep an open mind, but my first impression of bonus ball is that it is the most retarded billiard game I've ever seen, down to the color of the balls and the hideous outfits worn. I hope this is not the future of professional pool.

Wait until you see the team energy in the playoffs with all that money on the line.

I felt the same way after watching 10 mins, i couldnt watch no more, you couldnt pay me to watch it, iam for anything if its going to better pool, maybe this just mite do it, but i dont think so, iam a great fan of pool and love watching it being played but i cant watch this game at all, hopefully this new game will grow on its players and fans, if not it wont be the first time for failure in pool.

IMO pool has always had the great games to play, "new" games were/are not the answer to bringing pool into mainstream world, they are just one man's egotistical dream.

The answer lies in the quality and manner it is presented to the world. The problem is with the people involved in the game, both the players and the promoters. Pool presents itself to the world as an unprofessional sideshow, and, unfortunately, that's how it is seen.

I wish BB the best of luck, but I believe that it is far from being the answer.

Some of the most intelligent minds in pool have combined their knowledgel to create Bonus Ball. That includes Darren Appleton, Johnny Archer, Cory Deuel and even Mike Massey. Why did they even bother to work with Chiborak? They all saw how good this game plays. I see how good this game plays and maybe some day, many more will see the obvious. Bonus Ball is all the best of traditional pool games combined in one game that eliminates the luck and simplicity of past pool games! If you ever wonder why professional pool players don't play eight ball? Just watch how they tear the game apart. Watching Shane playing nine ball at the US Open, the guy was amazing. Did he ever miss a shot? He missed a lot of shots playing Bonus Ball. That doesn't make him a bad shot, it shows you how challenging this game plays!

There is no doubt in my mind that One Pocket, if watchable, would be the Grand Daddy of games. It is very strategic with many incrediable shots made through-out a match. Bonus Ball is like that but a much faster version.

Whether you decide to watch it is everyone's choice. Personally, I am starving to watch something on professional pool and this is what suits my needs! Teams, standings, statistics and finally then play-offs. If they played nine ball, i'd watch it. 10 Ball, i'd watch it. Bonus Ball is just the game of billiards that the WPBL has decided to play! Sticking your nose in the air is going against the grain of these professional players. I can't imagine Cleary or anyone else sitting down with any of the top players and winning their arguement that they are playing a dumb game!

I also watched the Chicago team win the exhibition tournament. They weren't confused my friend, they were over analyzing each shot which will become second nature very quickly. That is what happens during the learning process. Nine Ball strategies also have to be learned. Talking to Nathan, Rodney Morris has been practicing the game a lot and is quickly learning the strategies of this game. Scott Frost is having a great time with this game. So really take some time to see what they are seeing before tearing the game itself to pieces! Watching anything for ten minutes is useless. I spent many hours wrapping myself around Eight Ball and Nine Ball to learn these games as has everyone!

I believe you will enjoy this league, despite this new unknown game. Just give it a chance. Learning a new game takes effort. seems like the 10 minute effort is all some players have time for? I doubt that. Most pool players I have encountered are extremely intelligent minds and have great analytical abilities! That is why they love the difficulty of mastering pool. It's simply a fantastic game, no matter what game you chose. Have a Happy New Year!

I've not seen too many pro players that would not take upfront guaranteed money to promote something new, with an opportunity to win more. I wish it success and we'll all see how this plays....and pays out....in due time. Inventing a new pool game is one thing but having to purchase equipment to make it work has always been difficult to do in our world.

The only solution is promoting the game itself. Unless you're a fairly committed player, you cannot appreciate how difficult the game is, and how much skill the pros possess. There is no macro physical execution that is impressive to a non-playing public, such as basketball, football, or hell, even golf. Inventing some new game, with teams and stats and cheer leading squads...that's just fluffery, it won't work and if it does, it won't last.

The countries where pool is hugely popular are the countries where many, many more people actually play the game. I grew up in Taiwan as an expat, around the decade that pool was solidified into a national sport (early 90's to early 2000's). EVERYONE was at least a C player. I mean, there will be 50-table rooms (over a thousand rooms in Taipei alone), operating 24/7, mostly packed with students, young people, older people...every male in Taiwan could run a few balls. Everyone got their chin over their cue and stroked it like they meant it.

In that environment, you have something to work with. The government started promoting the sport, and schools started billiard programs. Wu Chia Ching was a product of public school pool programs, with the benefit of coaches and training etc. The Taiwanese public didn't get behind pool because of some slick packaging or marketing...they got behind pool because they actually played the game. As a result, there was a very deep pool of talent and you can see how well that worked out for them on the international stage, how many world titles and how deep the Taiwanese manage to run into almost any field they enter. They also have a thriving pro tour that gets live coverage.

You know, if Earl Strickland walked into my pool room tomorrow and started running racks on table 1, maybe 10% of the customers would even know who he is. The rest of the room, the 90%, could watch him run 5 racks of 9ball or 10ball and not be all that impressed, because they don't really play the game and they have no rubric to judge Earl's skill. I don't see how an invented, contrived game with purple and orange balls is going to change that.
