boys v. girls

The way I see it...show me the money...and the Women will come.

There is not enough money in our sport for it to draw more women NUMBERS.

So, I guess women are more driven by money than the men. That's a good one. Money is the reason why the top ladies can get the 7,8,9 from many of the top men for the cash, and not like it at all. Thanks for clearing that up.

For generations it’s been a man’s sport, the Action is not what most top women and men are going after. They know from the past it is a dead end.
If Sponsors outside the industry would have stepped up, it would be easy to start kids playing pool. Girls included, it would have been the coolest thing ever to have seen us play for HUGE purses. I know I would still be shooting, just for the excitement and the action!

A woman winning a major could definitely happen, but even if it did it wouldn't mean that women can hang with the men, it just means that a woman won that one competition. Multiple women will have to win multiple tournaments before being accepted into the men's club. That's a fact. The only thing is that *IF* a woman pulls off a victory in a major tournament against the men, people will start in on the "The women can play with the men" talk just like they start the "Efren has lost his edge" threads when he loses *one* match. Kind of funny really. Because for as much winning as Efren has done over the years he has also done his fair share of losing. Toss in his age though and all of a sudden he's lost a step.

any time you want to hear dudus americanus in full-throated roar, just mention that someday women pool champs will be beating men champs.

now whether this will ever happen, this deponent knoweth not. i guess nobody does, really?

a couple of disadvantages for girls: physical strength on the break for some games. and -- usually being shorter -- having to use a bridge more often.

but it seems possible that a jasmin, or some young girl we haven't yet heard about, could do it someday.

i'm confident that the forum will provide a full and fair ventilation of all aspects of this most serious subject!

i don't really think the strength part comes in to play with the break. women can certainly be strong enough to break as hard as the men

i think the only thing separating the women from the men in terms of skill is competitiveness. men are raised to win! almost every game boys play growing up has a winner and a loser, and by the time the games over every boy knows he'll be 1 of the 2.

the women that're able to compete at the same level that male pros do are just more competitive. basically they have the natural ability already and they want it more.

there're are already plenty of women that play as well as amateur male players. the difference there, imo, is just a numbers deal. when more women start playing we'll see just as many bums-shortstop level players.

there're plenty of women out there that have the potential to be strong b-a or even pro level players. the problem is they never got into playing pool so they'll never know it.

i just wanted to throw this out there.

years ago nobody could beat x number of feet in the pole vault. after the 1st person did it people all over the world started doing it.

it only takes 1 to get the ball rolling.

ps i didn't put the actual number because i couldn't remember it

Just because I'm having fun, smiling and looking hot while shooting....... doesn't mean I don't want your balls on the table when I'm done playing. While you're staring at my ass, I'll be whipping yours.:grin-devilish:

I'm too new to this to boast like this seriously, but I will not always be this way. I will improve. Watch out.

This post is useless without pics.

um...this kinda sounds like nonsense to me, no offense intended. First of all, you are talking about top WPBA pros vs. local shortstops. Yeah, maybe they win sometimes. But lets compare apples to apples.

If you were to take Kelly against Johnny in a race to 9, you and I need to get together with a lot of cash...lets make that bet 100 times in a row, ok? Do you seriously think Kelly or any woman pro beats Johnny more than 30% of the time?

Likewise, if you have 6 women in a field of 58 men, the women don't not win because there are less of them. It is because most of those men play better. If it were only about the numbers, then over time you would expect one of those 6 women to win the tourney at least once. But it NEVER happens. Certainly not in 9 ball, 10 ball, or 8 ball. Its not about the numbers. Its about the fact that the best men are FAR better than the best women.

*Why* this is the case is a matter of debate (and as I can see here, a lot of speculation), but *whether* this is the case is a non-issue.

hell, most top ranked male players couldn't beat Johnny 30% of the time!

...girl is ...must overcome some unique pressures:
Every few minutes a guy will hit on her, under the pretense of asking if she wants to play some. Every second, a guy is looking at her ass when she bends to shoot. Or at least that's what's in her head when she's trying to shoot. And of course some guys succeed in their efforts and get her out of the pool hall and on a date. If she's single, it's gonna be hard to stay that way for long...
What he said!
