Brand of cues used to win the most tournament wins!

I used to go to the Main, For Sale and Gallery sections but now because the For Sale section is such a maze I spend most of my time in the "Gallery" section.

Anyway, there was a statement made in the Gallery Section that Schon cues have won the most tournaments. I assume that the poster meant "Pro" level. I thought it was an interesting question.

Here are my thoughts...

Between Allison Fisher and Earl Strickland (both were sponsored by Cue-Tec), I would suggest that more were won with Cue-Tec than any other cue.

Second IMO, would be Meucci. Hell they had all the pros in their stable for one time or another.

Johnny Archer was sponsored by Schon for YEARS. He won plenty of tournaments, but I would guess less than 1/2 what Allison and Earl won with Cue-Tec. I think Allison might have won EVERY event one year.

What do you guys think?

From '76 to early-mid '90's Meucci cues were in the hands of more winners than all the rest combined. Buddy,Earl,Rempe,Sigel,Howard,Matlock,Efren and the list goes on.

I guess it's between Meucci and Cue-Tec.

:)

Earl won more with Meucci than his Cuetec.

He really didn't like Cuetec.

And before Allison came into the picture, there

was Loree Jon with her Meucci........She didn't win

many but won a few.

Schon? Don't know anyone that wins with a Schon.

I agree with the notion that Meucci is probably the one that's won the most tournaments due to their prominence during the 80's, but let's not forget that along with Earl and Allison there is a player currently using a Cuetec that might have won a couple of tournaments over the last few years to drive up their numbers just a bit. Can't seem to remember his name though :p

Question should which NON-PAYING brand was used .
Endorsements shouldn't count .

Was Mosconi paid to use his cues ?

Well he was sponsored by Brunswick and Rambow worked for Brunswick as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if there were some incentive for him to use a Rambow.

I'm just all confused now because now i'm not sure what a production cue is.
Evidently if you have employees you are now considered to be a custom production cue maker.

Well, if that's the case, it looks like Black Boar is a production cue then. It is more than just Tony building cues.

Cause -> Effect
Cue -> Wins tournaments?
Wins tournaments -> Gets cue sponsorships?

That really is a pertinent question.
I think Schon and Joss would be near the top on that list.
Usually, I'm not too interested what a top player is using....they're flogging.

In golf, I loved Sam Snead's game when I was young......
..but if you bought a club with his name on it, you were getting a second string line by Wilson.
The only golf equipment I would buy with a player's name on it had either Ben Hogan or
Henry Cotton on it.

Point? Nevermind.

Obviously, players got paid for their endorsements. Some of these comments make me .

Schon cues, Johnny Archer was a players representative for them. He won a few, and in fact, was deemed. Player of the 90's!

Hell I think even Louie Roberts was Meucci Representative. That list must have been a long one.

I think your thread is interesting. I also think it's interesting to think about the extent to which a company makes good cues that champions prefer, or makes mediocre cues but is good at marketing. I'm actually not sure I understand why you would react negatively to making that part of the discussion in this thread. Seems an obvious side-discussion to me. *shrugs*

Well if I remember correctly, Earl got $40K-$60K per year to play with Cuetec. This was for like 10 years. But Earl had to be Earl, and lost that. I personally heard him say, "I am beating all these Champions with a cheap Cuetec cue". How could any sponsor not love the guy?

All pros would play with any cue if they were endorsed. To say they wouldn't, IMO, is silly.

The same goes for OB or Predator shafts.

BRussell, are you suggesting that if offered to get $60K per year for the next 10 years, that ANY PROFESSION POOLPLAYER WOULD SAY "NO"?

I guess that might sound negative, but I think the answer is obvious.

Ken: Sure they'd take the money. But my guess is that most pros don't get paychecks from the cue companies but maybe get free cues. Would they switch cues in that situation, even if they didn't really like the cue?

Or, another issue, if they get free cues: They might use an off-the-shelf cue but in some cases I suspect they get essentially custom-made cues, or perhaps very top-of-the-line, but in either case very different from what the typical customer gets. So how does that play into the question?

But all that is independent of whether a company makes "tournament-winning" cues. Do you think it's all marketing hype and, even if, say, Predator players have won the most championships, that doesn't mean anything at all about the quality of the cue?
