There is a large supply of old (over 20 years old) Brazilian Rosewood available in square and dowel form. What sizes and prices would appeal to everyone. I am not trying to be vague I just want to know what fair market value is. It is possible that it will be available at Valley Forge during the SBE. Please reply here rather than PM's
Thank you

Is it reclaimed wood or did it come from milled boards? When you say over 20 years old, can you be a little more specific?

Depends on the figure and coloring straight grain or not.......I would and have paid anywhere from $20 to $150 a stick, a couple sticks I have I paid even more for......depending on the figure and coloring.

Put some pictures up and let us fight over it!

As far as sizes.........cue building sizes would nice.

Put up your dukes!

i will pay up to $50 as long as it isn't the reclaimed stump wood stuff.

i have no interest in that stuff at all.

might pay a little more for the good colored stuff.

Rosewood is one of my favorite woods to work with.
Old house cues have some nice rosewood in them sometimes.
The finish that they put on the house cues back then did not really show the true beauty of the rosewood.

I would certainly like to see some photos and prices.

Dowels or squares 14" to 30" will pay according to quality.

Hey Paul, If it was older top quality Brazilain Rosewood with no cracks, checks and grain runout issues, I'd buy a few 1-1/2 x 18 squares with good or better tone at $40 to $55 per. The color and grain figure would have to appeal. I already have some nice 60 year old Brazilian, so I don't need it. But when you're a wood cue nut, it's not about need. I'd also be joyous to locate sound, straight grained Amazon Rosewood squares or boards.

I'd step out of the way of any AZB pirhana feed:grin-square:

Anything 1.375" square or diameter & above. Anything 13" or longer. Price will depend on size, color & figure.

Martin,i have been looking since i started building cues and the Amazon seems to be harder to find than the Brazilian.fwiw looking at the stats on the Amazon i think it would be better cue wood than Brazilian anyway.

Nothing beats Pernambuco imo.
I got some curly ones.
I have a few braz rosewoods.
You when we quit turning, we'd eventually make ourselves brazilians of some kind.

Mason, I only saw lumber available one time at Mitch's (THW of LA). I bought one board and shared it almost 4 years ago. I have one square left. It is a wonderful tonewood, IMO. I have a feeling Brazil has severely restricted it's exportation. I haven't been able to locate it. I'd imagine plenty of it has been sold as Brazilian Rosewood since it looks the same.

Can't take pictures at this time. I am curious as to how many people would actually be at VF to see and purchase what is available. And to clarify all the wood stock is from the 70's. The reason I am asking is that because of the sheer quantity of material I want to make sure that people will be interested in purchasing at the show.

Just for clarification here, you're saying that I have to drive half way across the country to purchase some of this? Not very cost effective, IMO.

As far as pricing, let me see if this helps you.

I'm looking for Br. Rswd.
What have you got & what's the price?

The responses to this question will give you an idea of what the market is.

Brazilian Rosewood

I have a booth at the show and would be interested in buying some of it.
