Break Cues..

I never really gave much thought to breakers until recently. As a cue dealer, that's not a good sales pitch to sell, but this isn't a pitch.

I always figured I'd get one to use for the home table, just never have.

So.. long story short, I noticed last night that my dedicated sterling that I've used breaking is starting to curve in the middle.

At 6'5 240, I have a powerful break..

So, should I go with a lighter, stronger breaker, or a huge heavy hunk of lumber?

I figure if you sell Viking it is the natural place to look. no?

Get a weight bolt set for it and try different weights to see what you like.

I have been very curious about straight taper break shafts. If you try one, please pot your thoughts.

.

That's the one I'd get anyway, and I'll post my results. Thanks.

Hi,

good luck on the venture:-).
In my opinion a break cue has to flex a bit, not to strong that is - just jumps the cue more easily.

I'm 6' @ 240 and have always had a great break too. I recently bought a 21.5 ounce break cue and every week during league there is always 1 or 2 more people complimenting me on it. I prefer the heavier cue. At our size we have the strength to get the heavier cue moving

why not save yourself some money and buy one of the lower priced models and order it with the v crush shaft instead of the vpro? That way you could order a cue that matches more of your style or your shooting cue. that is what I did earlier this year.

That's a nice idea, thanks.

We've moved an old cue to our breaking cue back around February. It's a composite fiber glass super light. Everyone in our league loves breaking with it. You can really slam it. However, I'm sorry to say I don't know the brand :( I'll be using it until it splits if it ever does

My dedicated break cue was 19 oz and it worked just fine. So just for fun I removed the 3 oz weight bolt and found out I could get more speed. Now at 65 years old and 170 pounds I don't have the strength of you big guys to get a 19oz cue going as fast as a 16 oz. And as side note the shaft is 14 MM so it has less flex. It came with a hard leather tip. Yesterday I tried out a friends break cue with a White Diamond tip. Holy crush the rack! I've got to get one of those tips.

When I moved from English to American pool, I started out with a basic cheap Flash cue which cost me about 40 pounds.

Later when I upgraded to a Pechauer cue with a Predator shaft I thought it was a shame to waste the Flash cue, so I had a professional retip it with a rock hard breaking tip, and since then it's been my breaker. :)

I'm sure there are a handful of reasons why it's not the best breaking cue in the world, but it makes a satisfying and distinctive sound and the balls seem to find pockets often enough, so I don't think I'll be changing it any time soon.
