What break/jump cue is best for under $300? I am an above average player, and am newly in the market. Please give me your opinions and why you like what you are using, I need all the help I can get. Thanks!

I have a Alex Brick Diamondwood B/J that hits like a wrecking ball ...
Cost was around $250.00 direct from Alex.

PM me for his contact info, as I understand I am not allowed to post it here.

i would go with an andy gilbert or maybe a mace if i wanted more of a beater, dont have to worry about break jump.

I love my McDermott wrapless Jump/Break with a white diamond tip. I tend to see most people going with 18 and 19 oz. cues to get the speed, I like my 21 oz. and grip it about 1 1/2" behind where it breaks down to a jump cue. I know this seems a bit short, but I am 6' tall and after you get used to it you will find that you can get great control with the cue ball with great cue speed while breaking. Most around here have Predator break cues and swear by them. Just don't take you eye off it as there are usually about half of the field using them at any tournament.

Just my 2 cents

It's been said before....if your getting your first Jump/Break you have to try a J&J Jump/Break. For the $65.00 or so dollars you'll spend it's well worth it! I got it from one of the guys here...can't remember who....but he has a nice selection. Hits a ton and breaks really well also. Can't go wrong for your first Jump/Break.

If I remember right, KOINNKID had some J&J J/B for sell. Great guy to deal with.

As for the best J/B, I have a Kaiser Panther J/B that I came with phenolic tip and ferrule combo and that thing smashes the rack like a mac truck.

Here is a thread about the best break cue, thought you might be interested:

Sorry I cannot be of more help, good luck.

Happy shooting! :)

Gilbert jump breaks are considered beaters? i thought they were pretty good cues. i've never seen one that didn't look as good as anyone else's sneaky petes

I've heard J&J are a great value. If you're looking on the higher end, you could probably find an original (non-McDermott) Stinger for less than that used. Maybe even new if you bargain with some nice dealers.

The last Gilbert J/B I saw not only looked as good (read better) than most other Sneakys, it PLAYED better too LOL.

I have a Fury that Im happy with. One of my friends has an Omen that is very nice and breaks them a ton. Course that could be the fact that he is the one swinging the cue :)

The Lucasi L-2000JB comes with a leather tip, which isn't the most conducive to jumping. You could get frustrated if you're new to jumping or used to using phenolic. You could always have it switched out though. Haven't tried the other two.

I have a Lucasi Jump cue $72--it jumps quite well, thank you.
Visually it is almost indistingusihable from the J&J jump cues--I suspect they come from the same place.

go with cuetec they have jumpbreak cues for under $300 thanks:wink:

I am sorry I HAVE to chime in here. I for a very short period in my life owned one of Cuetec's J/B cues....HUGE mistake. The best thing that ever happen to me was I dropped it and the ferrule broke off. So I sent it back to Cuetec for warranty. Fedex ended up lossing it in the mail....So they cut me a check for what would have been a very long time player; McDermott.

Of course I have since moved on from that..nothing against McDermotts...but I moved on!

Of course this was like 8-9 years ago maybe Cuetecs technology is better now.

Ive been workiing on my break alot lately and ive been using a J&J Well just for kicks, the other day I pulled out my old jacoby j/b to use and man I swear my break went up a ball. Then I went back to the J&J and it felt like a toothpick in my hands (and i aint exactly got big hands) it just felt weak and after hitting with the jacboy i could tell why the j&j's are only going for 60 bucks now. You get what you pay for.

The J&J's are great starters but if youve got 300$ to spend then do it. Dont skimp on the j/b.

And BTW the jacoby hits like a monster

I think the best jump/break cue under $200 is the Fury. It's tip is designed to hold chalk very well for breaking (phenolic type tip I believe, that grips well and I never miscue on the break). Jumps pretty good also.

if you want MORE of a beater, perhaps get a mace. in other words, a mace is more of a beater than a gilbert (yet still maces are not necessarily beaters like the j&j's).

i tried every break jump out there and these are the two that really appealed to me. that said if you want a crap j&j go ahead, be my guest (i would love to replace all my oppnents jump breaks with j&j's).
