Playing 8 ball

I broke the balls today one time and not only did I not make the 8 on the break, but I only made 3 balls.

What is the problem? Did I hit the cueball too low?

This is for all the DrCue'sProtege fans out there LOL

See, you werent holding your mouth right..... making the 8 on the break everytime is easy..... you just have to make the right face at it...... :D
Chuck

I thought that is what it was, but rather than practice I figure that I can just ask here.

I mean cmon, look what it did for DrCue'sProtege's game......

You must post several Wei diagrams for us to be able to understand your question.

One hint. You need to practice your break shot at least a zillion times

You clearly hit the cueball too low. Use high english and make the cueball jump in the air after contact with the rack. The higher the cueball jumps, the better your chances of making the 8 ball.

If you are injury prone you should avoid this one, but a good way to get a solid break is to stand 10 to 20 feet away from the head of the table and sprint toward the table, launching your entire body at the cueball so that your feet are off the ground and you are balancing on your bridge hand.

.

Good Tip!! It makes sense. If the cue ball jumps into the air, it might come down on top of the 8 propelling it toward a hole, and the higher it jumps the more energy it will hit it with.

Don't forget to "follow through" 371/2 inches for max power.....SPF=randyg

Thank you for the answers.

A follow up question, I ran at the rack and the cueball jumped straight up in the air and then landed on the 8 ball which moved it to the corner pocket, but it didn't go.

What was I doing wrong?

Without seeing a WEI table is hard to tell, but I would guess you should

  1. Invest in some very expensive high grip running shoes
  2. Use a high, masse, jump/draw stroke to get the proper spin on the CB to make the 8
  3. Give up the game as you obviously have no talent for it

You obviously have a defective break cue.

Thanks for the advice.

I thought about the running shoe idea but then thought I can ride a bike much faster than I can run.

So I bought a new Cannondale and I started in I-465 about 2 miles away from my house. I put my break stick in my right hand and got up to full speed, rode through the door, into the living room, and ran my stick into the cueball.

It was amazing.

Making the 8 Ball on Brake in 8 Ball is Tough...

What about making it on the Gas Pedal? I heard it was hard on the Brake

(hilarious thread!)

Just like the Miz say's...practice, practice, practice. Seriously though, why are you concerned about making the 8-ball on the break? You don't win the game as it has to spot up. For best breaking results try this. Put the cue ball on the break line about one ball width from center on either side. Concentrate on hitting the apex ball as full as possible with the cue ball. Sacrifice speed for control and hit the cue ball slightly above center for stopping action. If you make something the table is open and then just look for trouble areas and plan on where you will make the 8-ball and the ball before it. Hope this helps.:)

You must be kidding. After all the great advice and tips above, you are talking about just hitting the ball squarely while standing still?
