What have you found to be the best break tip to install on a JB cue. Opinions is all I need. I realize we all have prefrences. I have a Sledgehammer and am happy with it, however, I do cue repair and am begining to get request. I have a lathe so there is no problem trimming them.

Where to get them would also help.

The White Diamond is fantastic. Put it on top of a phenolic ferrule and its even better. Hold chalk very well and is super hard.

Hope all is well with you Purdy!

Leather= Super Pro (most Control Out Of A Hard Tip, And Cheap)

Next Step In Hardness= White Diamond (harder Than Leather, More Control Than Phenolic)

Most Speed= Phenolic (you Can Get Lilly Tips From J&j)

Those Are The Options I Give My Guys.

The Icebreaker Tips Are Nice As Well (phenolic With Leather In The Middle For A More Controlled Break), But Are More Cash Than Most Players Want To Spend On A Break Tip.

I swear by the WD's !!!

here goes...

If it is breaking only, phenolic ferrule with a separate black phenolic tip. ARM ONLY STROKE ON BREAK.

You can also shave a phenolic tip down low, and SMASH a LePro after soaking it in vinegar and milk, and glue it on shaved down thin. I cut a nickel proile to he tip, and then cut out the back of hhe lepro to fit it.

Marcus' recommendations are an excellent place to start. You can cover most of your requests with just a few tips. I've swapped a few phenolics out for WD's and nobody feels they gave up any noticeable power, but control is improved a lot. Another good leather tip is the Talisman BK. I like it better than the Superpro, but it's much more expensive. Some guys just don't like layered tips, so I keep some pressed Sumos around for them.

I WAS USING SUMOS BUT THE LAST 4 OR 5 BOXES I GOT WERE ALL JUNK. (SOFT AND FLAKY) THAT WAS WHEN I SWITCHED TO THE SUPER PRO.

The White Diamond tips ARE the nuts, but I can't find the right glue to hold them onto an ivorine ferrule. They keep popping off. I have sanded the ferrule completely flat. I have sanded the glue side of the tip flat. I have used 2-part epoxy, Super Glue gel, Loctite Professional strength, and Tweetens 10-minute cement, all with disastrous results. Any suggestions?

break tip

From a fellow AZer, I purchased a sledgehammer with the white diamond tip. I am very pleased with the results. As far as where to buy: present that ?? in the ask the cuemaker section. Should get decent response.

WITH THE WD'S OR PHENOLIC TIPS I USE A VERY COARSE FILE TO ROUGHEN UP THE SURFACES. I USE LOCTITE GEL AND HAVE NO ISSUES. I DID HOWEVER HAVE A WD POP OFF WHEN I WAS JUST USING SAND PAPER TO PREP THE SURFACES.

Ok.I have to say that the white diamond is the best Jump/break tip ever made. What I've done is just cut the ferrule off of my Jump/break cue and glue the wd tip to the end of the shaft. No ferrule whatsoever(got the idea from Hitt Cues "Harpoon" jump cue, which is magical in itself,if you don't have one,you need to get one) and I'm telling you it is a F@#%ing monster. You will murder the balls even if your break sucks. And jumping the balls is like magic, very predictable, magical, hell I can jump a ball 2/3 the length of the table and draw the cue ball back the length of the table.I have bought several cheap ebay J/B cues and turned them into MONSTERS!!

You guys are missing the EXCELLENT one. If you choose not to go the phenolic route...the new leather tip by Samsara is the hardest leather tip ever offered.

I would definately agree with this comment, i have one on my custom break shaft and i love it!!!!!!!!

WD's are great, but...

After months after install a WD on my JB, i found it looses its energy.
Anyone has the same problem? The glueing was perfect, the surfaces were flat, and as I said, it was pretty well. WAS.
Dunno why.
And for now, my friends, I found some kind of phenolic at the factory where im workin, and try it on my break cue. :p
And OMG:eek:    it is absolutely super extra ultra hard, breaks aWEsomMMEEEEE  (never found as hard phenol tip as that one) [EDITED: and hold chalks very well. 100x more than WD]
I hope it wont break the CB for million parts :)
