BREAKERS in Mobile,Alabama Looks like a good one....

Action all over the place..............

Gene,
Please don't draw me in the tournament. I wouldn't have the heart to beat you. My heart goes out to you man.

Take care of yourself. Go do some brisk walking, drink lots of water and flush your system out. I want to see you play your best game.

Joey, it's great.

Everytime i turn around there is someone playing for something. When I left Richey Richardson was starting his 5,000 one pocket match with Jerry Brock. I just got done playing john or is it Joey Barnes from Texas. I just wanted to play 100 races to 9 to feel out the bar tables. Well we went hill-hill and rolled it and bet 200. Then we went hill-hill and rolled it to 300. How does that happen all the time. Just going to play cheap and here we go. I won the next one 9-7. And won the next one 9-5. Had to quit so i can get some sleep and play in the tourny tomorrow. This guy plays good. I don't think we're done yet. I feel like I'm starting to get in stroke a little. Too many Perfect aim lessons and not enough table time.

We'll see tomorrow if I can cut the mustard. It's gonna be fun.

Scott Frost was being his usually colorful self and woofing it up by asking Jerry if he was going to win. I guess he likes jerry and has a side bet. Don't know how much though.

Then right in the middle of everything is gary aboad playing 2500 sets with Cliff Joiner on the bar table. It was still going on when i left at 2:30.

There's more that went on but I missed it because I was playing myself. Wish i could tell you all the outcome but I had to leave.

If you didn't come down here and are close your really missing out.

I held up pretty good to the smoke tonight also. Headache, runny nose, sinuses burn and my clothes smell like crap but I'm going to get some sleep and see what tomorrow has to offer.

If your not here you can still come. It's not too late.

Good night Joey and everyone else.

Hey, thanks for the great action report at the Mobile event.:)

They are still allowed to smoke in the pool rooms in Alabama? Wow! :embarrassed2:

As an ex-smoker, I wouldn't enjoy that too much. :p

I might have put up with that smoke, though, if I was able to enjoy all that pool action. Looking forward to your next update! :grin-square:

Good MORNING , MOBILE, ALABAMA

What a great wake-up post from Gene! That'll get the heart pumping.

I'm finished eating one of those healthy breakfasts and I have purchased some different foods designed to keep me in top shape; whole grain breads, protein shakes, energy bars, apples, oranges, tomatoe, turkey slices for my whole grain bread. I've got my hypnosis cd and now all I have to do is bring my game. :p:p

Thanks for the wake-up Gene.

Joey Barnes is a MONSTER for those of you who don't know who he is.

Does this make any of you feel better about Gene sticking to the forum like he has? Wow. Here's a guy who is still fighting the fight and he's bringing it to you LIVE.

And he shares his secrets of PERFECT AIM which you can learn more about by either taking a pool lesson from Gene OR by clicking here. http://www.perfectaimbilliards.com/

Jerry and Ricey quit even at 7:00. In the one pocket race to 5.

Gary beat Cliff 2 sets for 2500 each.

Won't be any action until tonight. I post what i can.

Got tp go play my second match.

See ya later.

I just got done watching our own Joey A go hill hill in a courageous battle with CJ Whiley. Joey played a pretty good safe and CJ jacked up and got a piece of it and caromed the nine ball in the side. If that nine ball doesn't find the side pocket I would be playing CJ tomorrow.

Sad to say that Joey and myself have to battle it out tomorrow at 12:00.

I just got to the room,it's 7:15 AM. We have to play at noon. Kind of jacked up if I don't say so myself. The good news is Joey got out of there a couple of hours earlier so at least my friend will get a little more sleep.

Bedtime. or whatever time. maybe my alarm won't go off. It would probably be doing me a favor.

Thanks for the updates. Man, I know what it's like to be running on empty with no sleep at a pool tournament. :frown:

Find yourself some coffee or drink a Mountain Dew, anything with caffeine.

JoeyA must be hitting 'em pretty sporty to go neck and neck with C.J. Wow!

Hope you get a couple hours rest. Good luck to you and JoeyA. Sometimes it's fun to play somebody you know in a tournament. It takes the edge off. :)

Gene thanks for all the updates, sounds like your having a great time other than the smoke issue.

You must be playing really good to play even will and stick it to Joel Barns, he's a good player for sure.

Wish you and JoeyA lots of luck, hate that you guy's are playing each other next, but thats how it usually goes.

thanks for all the Action Report!

Hey Geno, let me know when your headed back to WI. I would like to get a lesson. 10 years ago your son was teaching me so tricks of the trade. Now that I shooting 10x better, I think I'm ready for the Master to teach me more.

Pm me when you think your heading this way.

Have fun, and kick some a$$ down south.

I felt sorry for him.

Gene reminded me of the stories I heard of I think it was Wimpy (Luther Lassiter) who would feign being sick, having a runny nose, when actually he sufferered from an illness that made his lips swell and turn red.

Gene complained to me in this thread that the smoke was really getting to him at the Mobile tournament and I empathized with him and said that I hoped he and I didn't play in the tournament because I wouldn't have the heart to beat him.

this morning, I am thinking that I am playing James Roberts but the board actually said JoeyB was playing James Roberts. JoeyA was scheduled to play Gene Albrecht. Gene was the one who first informed me that he and I were scheduled to play. Prior to that he was exhibiting the runny eye syndrome and complaining about how badly the smoke affected him, causing him all kinds of physical problems.

A few minutes later we were flipping for the break racing to 9. I won the flip and come out the gate like burning hell, breaking making one ball and masterfully running out a decent rack. Since it was winner breaks, I broke the next rack, made a ball and ran a couple of more and got slightly short of shape because of the slow cloth or a poor stroke and had to play a safety which FAILED. Gene, in spite of his detiorating physical condition, struggled to put his game in order and won that game. He started breaking like he had read my thread about breaking on a bar table and the balls kept falling like shooting stars as I sat in my chair watching him drop them one after the other. The games ran into one another and I don't have much memory of the actual order of what he did. The last thing I remember is looking at poor Gene's swollen, red eyes and saying, "Good shooting Gene" lamenting that he had waxed me 9-1. Things could have been worse but I can't think of anything right now.

There were lots of VERY positive moments in this tournament for me personally.

Billy Incardona passed by for a few minutes (more like an hour) and told me about the inside scoop with Dippy and as usual opened my eyes a little wider.

C J Wiley and I had a good match and CJ was kind enough to let me get close to having a chance against him, finishing the match in CJ WILEY style. I had played a decent safety on the four ball and CJ jacked up, jumping an impeding ball with a little side spin, banking it toward the corner pocket missing that; but the cue ball bounced off of the side rail and collided with the 9 ball and fluked the 9 ball into the side pocket for game and match. CJ was last seen in the winner's bracket as I traveled through a rain storm heading back from Mobile, dodging wrecks caused by the rain and stupid drivers thinking they were stunt car drivers.

(Trust me, in spite of my whining, I had A GREAT TIME)

Try it sometime, you'll feel at least as good as I do.

Thanks for the trip report. I felt like I was there. I could almost smell the smoke. :p

Was a survival tournament of toughest conditions......I feel like I came here to try

Thanks for the trip report. I felt like I was there. I could almost smell the smoke. :p

It was a great tournament but for me the smoke made it almost rediculous.

For 3 days before the tournament I tried to kill myself. I have been drinking diet mountain dew. Then I saw caffiene free diet mountain dew. So I bought some of that. About 5 days ago I bought what I thought was diet caffiene free only to realize while drinking the last can of the last 12 pack yesterday only to discover that I had bought caffiene free mountain dew. The 12 packs look almost the same. To make matters worse is I ran out of test strips to test my glucose but I'm really watching what I eat so it's not a big issue unless I'm pouring this sugar laden mistaken mountain dew down my throat. I had one test strip that I found when I discovered what I had done and my sugar level was almost 240. Not good.

When I got here I tried to buy some test strips at Walmart but they have them locked up in the pharmacy and they close at 8:00 or I would have found this out sooner. I've been feeling kind of bad lately so hard telling how long I had made this mistake. I was starting to get worried.

Then the smoke at Breakers just sat there like a tree. Even if you were healthy you would go brain dead if you were in there all day.

If you didn't stay on the winners side in the tourny you couldn't get enough sleep to function the next day. Sat night or should I say Sunday morning I finished my loser bracket match at 6:30 AM only to have to be back at 12:00 noon to play my next match. That's about 3 hours sleep tops.

By the time I got back to the room, took a shower to get the smoke off my body, put my sleep apnea mask on trying to breath through my smoke swollen sinuses it was 7:30. Got back up at 10:30 to play my next match.

Unfortuanately I had enough energy left to play one of the best matches I played against Joey A. Had I known what would happen 2 hours latter I would have just quit.

Playing Scotty Townsend I was ahead 4-0 and not giving him any chance to get going. All of a sudden it happened. It was like my body was just shutting down. My stomach knotted up,my eyes were burning so bad I couldn't hardly stand it and my legs felt like they wieghed 200 lbs each. I not only felt like I couldn't run out but I couldn't even figure it out. My brain was like dead. My body was trying to tell me it was over. At this point being diabetic it is over. Not only the physical things but mentally it is over also.

There is no gutting it out or getting tough. It's just over. Anyone that is diabetic will totally understand this. But there was an exciting side to this story.

Last night when I played Joey Barnes from Texas 2 $300 sets he had no chance. He almost could not believe it was happening. I played the bar table like the Geno from 15 years ago. The guy that ran around winning almost every bar table tourny he got in for about 7 years until finally quiting in 1999 because of undiagnosed diabetes. I felt that power that even if the other player got a shot here and there I would just pick up where I left off and just start breaking and running out again.

The sad news was I had all kinds of players wanting to play Sunday but I couldn't physically play. I don't know if I would blame it all on the smoke because the no sleep was a big factor also. In fact today is Monday but I still don't feel good enough to play at a top level. It might take 3 or 4 days to recover totally.

My best game was always the bar table years back. It looks like this will be my road game again even though I love the big table.

My biggest regret though was playing Joey A the match before not knowing the big meltdown I would have 2 hours later. I really thought I could keep going but it is always the same result with no sleep and the smoke.

Too bad there isn't a list you can get on like with the casinos if you have a gambling problem where they tell you to leave. That way us pool players that love the game and have a problem staying away in spite of the smoke won't be tempted to come. A smoking ban for certain players like myself.

Some day the smoke will be gone in all these states. Right now it is too much of a factor in these tournaments. That and the no sleep. The no sleep will always be there but the smoke will be gone.

I had a nightclub for 12 years. Many of the people that I knew hated to come in because of the smoke and they were right. They eat right and work out and could really tell what the smoke did to them physically. Plus the clothes smell so bad afterwards. The smoke keeps millions of people from playing pool everywhere.

Just think about all the people that would be potential customers but don't want to be around the smoke. That's alot of people.

If there were not these non smoking states I would have to quit again myself. What a shame. It's a great game but this gives pool the dirtiest , dingiesty image it could have.

Pick one of your friends that doesn't shoot pool much that is trying to be healthy into the smoke one night and see if he comes back. I don't think they will ever come back. The poison isn't worth it.

And I do feel sorry for the bars and poolhalls that are going through this conversion period where so many people have just had enough of the smoke. Especially the establishments where the city passes no smoking for just that town and everyone that smokes goes the the next town to spend their money where they can smoke.

I smoked until I was 31 so I understand. Had the nightclub for 12 years breathing in mega second hand smoke. This is one reason I have so much trouble though because many of the toxins and chemicals that are in cigs take a long time for your body to clean out.

I was tested a year ago. I've been out of the bar now for 10 years and my toxin levels are still off the charts. I must have good genes or I might have gotten cancer or something. Who knows, it might have something to do with diabetes. I do know this, once you are diagnosed with diabetes you better quit smoking or your not going to last long. That in itself tells you something. I've seen it with my friends first hand that didn't quit.

Sorry about my ranting on and on but if one person quits smoking because of what they read here that is huge. just one.

Hey my friends, try one more time to quit. For your wife, your kids and your quality of life while your around.

Thanks for reading Geno............

I just want to say thanks again for everything while I was in Denver. I don't even have enough sense to stay out of the smoke. I just went back to the poolroom to play joey Barnes some more. Had to pass. Got sick from the smoke within an hour. Can't hardly feel me left foot.

Wonderful world of smoking and pool. Like I said, can't wait until it's non-smoking everywhere.

Each time I do this, stupidly play in a tourny where they smoke, it takes about 4 or 5 days to feel normal again. Just being in there for the hour I feel like I did yesterday all over again.

Denver was nice. Inside and out.

Hope to get out to Denver again.

Thanks Dave

Got to get back to at least Ill. None smoking state.
