BREAKING NEWS: IPT Announces 150 Players

do some research on this mr. trudeau before you leap for joy,http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2004/09/trudeaucoral.htm

Where have you been? we have been through this a million times, it's dead and buried and we must move on. We all know this information and none of us know for sure if this will last more than a year or two, but we are all willing to take the ride and find out what happens, after all it only cost the players a $1 and it's much better than the governments lotto $1 and a dream crap:D

Anyway see you in Orlando, make sure you bring all your research and try to bum everyone out, but I think you might have a hard time as things are progressing very nicely.

The biggest rewards come from the biggest risks, and this is going to be an awesome ride indeed, and 99% of the risk is on Kevins side.

This is not about the best players available this is just about who has the best connections.

As someone who made the list as a dark horse, I can tell you the above isn't true. I actually feel kinda guilty, making the cut when other, more deserving players didn't. On the other hand, I'm not sure which of them actually completed an application for the tour. I certainly can think of no earthly reason why I'm on the list and not, say, Alex Pagulayan. My only guess would be what some others on the board have been postulating: maybe he never applied.

From a personal standpoint, I have no inside connections with this tour whatsoever. I don't know Mike Sigel or Kevin Trudeau, and I can't imagine either one has ever heard of me. But I did take the application seriously, and filled it out in the most professional manner I could. I distinctly remember making it a point to describe my background in 8-ball and 14.1... maybe this played a role? I don't really know.

Anyway, I plan to make the most of this opportunity and play my heart out. For the first time in a looooong time, I feel I have something worthwhile for which to practice. It is a good feeling.

Thanks JAM! I didn't make the cut for the first tournament, but I will be there in January. I can't wait!

And Orlando is gonna be the nuts... can you think of any better way to console yourself after a tough match than a few rides on Pirates of the Caribbean?? ;)

Austin Murphy?

I noticed the name Austin Murphy on the IPT list of 150 selected members. Does anybody know if this is the same Austin Murphy who won the 2005 BCA Junior Nationals (14 & Under Boys divison) at age 11 this past June, and then at age 12 took 13th place at the 2005 World Youth Championships (18 & Under Boys) in September? If it is it seems to add to the argument that Kevin Trudeau is looking for broad diversity within his chosen group of IPT members.

Yes, but since he's not aloud to play in his own tournament, I have won the friday night fiddlestix's race to 1 bar box 8 ball tournament more times than he has. So, that must mean I'm the better 8 ball player (on paper).

So that is how you padded your resume. Dave Brown now needs the 8 since your a tour player and all.

Al-fahl, how did you make out in the 8-ball match on Saturday?

Is it only me who can see that this guy is dodgy I mean trudeau has been convicted of fraud and money laundering not to mention a string of other offences yet he's allowed to run a "pool tour" and I use the phrase loosely, quite frankly I expected a lot more from the people who have been taken in by this scam namely: Earl Strickland, Johnny Archer, Ronnie O'Sullivan and many others.

Personaly I think it will be great when this comes crashing down around their ears and everyone says I told you so after trudeau has been busted for another offence.

Frank is a great ambassador to the sport and doesn't need people dumping on him for pursuing his dream. He's a dedicated player who deserves this as much as anyone.

Marissa I think you are one cool lady, but I really, really, really disagree with you here. There are more than 2 dozen top players that really deserved his spot.

There are a couple players who got selected who are barely shortstops....does Trudeau want them as cannon fodder or what? It bothers me that Alex Pagulayan is not on that list, nor Wu, Kuo, Chao, Yang, Jeong, and how about the many top Filipino Stars like Alcano or Orcullo?

There is nothing but SMILES here at the McCready ranch this morning! We still feel like it's a dream come true. :)

BTW, Steve, the "King of the Hill" Shootout in Orlando, November 30-December 4, there will be a MANDATORY players meeting which requires all 150 members to be in attendance. So I may be seeing you before January and looking forward to it, too! ;)

I haven't been to Florida in many years, but what is "Pirates of the Caribbean"? :p

I had breakfast one morning with Vincent Goh at the U.S. Open. He was a charming gentleman, and I enjoyed our chat, learning a great deal about Singapore. The flight from Singapore to the U.S. Open in Virginia took him 23 hours. I remember saying to him that he spoke English so good with no accent, to which he quickly replied that English is the native language in Singapore. :p

One thing about this pool life, it is a very educational experience, and I have been fortunate enough to meet some of the NICEST pool folk from around the world, to include Vincent Goh. Congratulations to him! :)

LOL! Vincent did eat an all-American breakfast, but it was a healthy one, with lots of fruit and grains. I think he was drinking hot tea, as I was wolfing down lots of coffee trying to get my eyes open for the day up ahead. :p

This year, the U.S. Open most definitely had an international flavor to it, and it was FANTASTIC seeing players from around the world in attendance.

One thing for sure, the 8-ball format of the IPT will allow the player who performs the BEST to advance to the finals, as opposed to infamous "luck" associated with 9-ball today. I don't think 8-ball will have the RACKING and BREAKING issues that 9-ball experiences in these times.

8-ball was the first game I learned when I began to play pool. When I was younger, I used to think 9-ball was harder because you were restricted to running the balls in consecutive order. Whereas, in 8-ball, if you get a little out of line, there can be another ball on the table for you to shoot in to keep the run going. However, I am just discovering that 8-ball, like one-pocket, is very strategic, like chess.

One thing for sure, I am going to purchase that new book written by Phil Capelle, "Play Your Best 8-Ball." I want to learn as much as I can about the game of 8-ball now. The description of this book can be found on this website: http://www.billiardspress.com

The Scorpion, I'm not sure how long you've been around this doggone pool world, but at least here in the States, the tournament trail has been a difficult one for aspiring players and veterans alike. In most tournaments, because the expenses far outweigh the payouts, one MUST come in third or fourth place to BREAK EVEN.

And let's not forget that the payouts currently are the exact same as they were 20 and 30 years ago. Yet, the cost of living has quadrupled. Not a very rewarding sport for those who continue to pursue their dreams and ambitions.

What a shame it is that there are naysayers who continue the bashing. If this man Kevin Trudeau is willing to take a chance on pool and CONTRIBUTE MILLIONS OF DOLLARS into the IPT, I would like to think he would be greeted with a welcoming committee and not continue to be verbally tar-and-feathered on the forums. Give it some time before you pass judgment.

So far, I see 150 players being given the opportunity to earn a decent living, and I want to see this tour grow strong and continue.

You think that would be GREAT? Where in the hell are you coming from? These players have been given HOPE, something that is long overdue for those who have dedicated their lives to this game/sport.

I'm giving Kevin Trudeau a standing ovation, a long round of applause, and a whole lot of thanks! :)

That's fine, he has the called 8 when we play. We will be playing races to 9 8-ball on the big table though since I have to get ready for this tour.

Do you have access to a table with SLOW cloth? We're heading out today to practice in a room which does have a table with SLOW cloth. In these times, they are a rarity!

See you in Atlantic City in several weeks! ;)
