Broken cue

Hey guys, I have a poison vx 2.9 jump/break and a month ago I broke and the butt collar snapped and the pin broke in half. Instead of replacing the whole cue, they sent me the middle piece. When I got it back, I noticed a small crack in the outside of the shaft collar and today (4 days later) the shaft collar snapped.

Have any of you had this problem? I do bend the shaft on my follow through and i know it's bad for the ferrule and i've heard of people snapping the shaft but not the collar.

Did I have a defect? Will this keep happening? I need something i can beat the crap out of

Asian quality you gotta love it!!!!!!!!

Seriously what do you expect from plastic when it is used in a break cue. For the price of those cues they could have easily used phenolic collars and parts but they choose not to. I would have recommended a J&J Jump Break they cost around $60 and they are built much better.

Sorry to hear about your problems, I am not making light of your situation, however, but it never ceases to amaze me how bad the quality control of these products are and how much money they are making from them.

Sounds like you need to purchase a copy of Joe Tuckers Racking secrets 2 along with a new break cue... If you are putting that much downforce into the table on the follow thru the DVD will show options for redirecting....

manwon, the collar is phenolic. i'll look into the j&j break.

i know i put a lot of pressure on my cue on my followthrough but i get the most power that way. i should rethink my break but there are pros who break and bend the shaft, look at hohman's break it's almost 90 degrees.

granted, he probably gets a new one every week...

i'm mostly trying to gauge if anyone else has had this problem

Just my two cents. Control is a lot more important than power on the break shot. Perhaps a change in technique is in order instead of new break cues.

Buddy I have sold some of these cues in my Pro-shop and I have worked on a number of them ( Replaced Collar's ) and all the ones I have repaired were Plastic not Phenolic.

Take care

I've been working on control, I train with a local pro who's been helping me with my game and that's one of the points he's been stressing.

I thought the joint was phenolic, my bad. I looked at the JJ and the Action, might pick up one of those. Also my friend's got the Fury for $50 i might try that too.

I know my break isn't great but that's another thread. I'm more concerned about the quality of predator group products. I was thinking of upgrading to the bk2 but i'm not so sure anymore.

I'm just frustrated that I sent my cue back to one of the most trusted names in the industry and they didn't even replace it, just sent me a spare part.

They probably shouldnt have warrantied the product at all the way you are saying you 'use' it while breaking. Im smaller than you are, I break harder and I dont bend the shaft like that ever. (all three I am assuming are correct, and sure enough that Id bet a lot on it)

No need to put that much torque on it so it breaks in the middle.

The joint on the other hand sucks huge donkey balls, that probably didnt help you either.

My .02 worth--- find an original Jerico Stinger and you will never need (or want) another B/J cue. You will find one every now and then on AZ or ebay or direct from Jerry Powers aka Jerico Cues.

The joint collars in those are plastic. Its not intened to be 'bent'. If your bending it, your breaking it.

Who is at fault?

You for bending it and Pred for building it to absolute minimum standards. Take your pick. ;)

fool me once, shame on you. fool me twice..

I've never been a Pred fan but I'm not a hater at all either. However it does seem , at least in my personal life , that I know more people than I should that have had warranty issues with them, multiple swap outs and exchanges and still continue to have problems. Are they bringing it on themselves? Ah....maybe in some cases but it still seems like it shouldn't happen as often as it does.

well now that i know the collar is plastic, i can't be too disappointed it held for almost 2 years. I've had 3 poisons and 2 predators and this is the first issue i've ever had and it looks like it's "my fault." i'll say for sure though that there's no chance i'm gonna shell out the cash for a bk2.

i'll try and rework my break too probably shouldn't go around snapping cues every 2 years lol

That is certainly a shame, but you will find these kind of problems throughout the industry. The best way to buy something is from a good dealer, because they will stand behind the product in most cases better than the manufacturer.

The reason the problem occurs is because the big companies do not have repair facilities, and to send the damaged products back to China is out of the question due to the cost of the product and the cost of shipping.

Yea, all they are concerned with is sales, but one of these days this crap will bite them in the Ass.

Take care and good luck.
