Just found this. Has anyone seen these colors before, purple and red? I haven't but don't know too much about the 26 1/2's. The shaft is warped but the butt is good.

No More Wrap

I took off the wrap. So cool to see the actual veneer color. Looks like everything is in good shape.
The case came with it. Anyone know anything about it? Not as old as cue right???

Yes the cue is in great shape. I have not seen that color combo before. The 26 1/2 cue that I had ten years ago had light green and yellow veneers if I remember correctly. That case rocks also.
I must say that you take great pics, thanks for sharing.

Found out more info on the cue. These are the same color veneers as the Ralph Greenleaf model. Brunswick started using them on there BBC 26 1/2 cues without Greenleaf's signature. He later sued them over that. Then Brunswick changed to the more traditional titlist colors around 1914-ish.
I believe my cue is circa 1910.
Can anyone else confirm this???

Nice cue - I'm very jealous - I've had my eye out for one with an ebony tipped shaft like that. I really like the look.

I'd like to see some evidence of Greenleaf allegedly suing Brunswick over the cue. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that one. Keep in mind that Ralph was born in 1899, so he certainly didnt sue anyone prior to 1915

Right, I hear you. Still trying to put the story together. He did sue Brunswick though.

Thanks for sharing your great pictures and story about this very rare cue. I've never seen anything like it before.

The Greenleaf two piece is black, red, brown, white, I think there is a 6 month or old so post with a pic of one.

Brunswick had some primary color schemes that pop up once in a white. Yours looks like orange, purple, white. Its definitely one of their better choices and its amazing how well that cue has held up.

Why in the world would you have a cue like this converted? You could have simply had it re-wrapped and a new shaft made, and kept the history AND the value. Instead you've crushed its value, destroyed the historical significance and now just have a run-of-the-mill cue that most people can't tell wasn't made from a modern blank. I've seen you do this with other antique cues as well and wondering what goes through your mind when you make such decisions.

Exactly. Rare cue, destroyed.

I know this is an old thread, but doing some searches on antique Balke-Collenders, atthecat keeps coming up. It's cruel irony that this guy keeps running across such amazing historically significant cues, and then destroys them.

good photo's, and 20 oz is like the icing on a cake.
i'll bet it plays, will you leave cue wrapless?

He already created a conversion out of it. -R- did a great job, but it was gorgeous in its original condition. I have had Jerry take a few antique cues that were basically in 'throw in the trash' condition, and perform miracles on them, but I generally only send him antiques to repair. I should have my website revamped in the next few weeks, and I'll show some of his repair jobs.

As you wish, dear sir.

You can join me here, though I must say that I don't usually do this for free...: http://vwc.state.va.us/content/judicial-opinion-search

Yes, he did sue Brunswick, but it had nothing to do with a cue.
I am not aware of any lawsuit over a cue. If there was one, I'd sure love to see it.

As a matter of fact, the existence of " Greenleaf cues" at all is still suspect as far as i'm concerned.

+1... and then some - also, IIUC - the Greenleaf cue was well after the Hoppe.

The Titlist started around 1940 - the 26 1/2s with those specific veneers predate
the Titlist by several years and there were no 26 1/2s after the introduction of the
Titlist.

I hear ya. I've left my antique Brunswick stuff alone as much as possible ... I warn folks about getting splinters when they go to get stuff off the ball rack
