Has anyone seen or better yet played on the latest version of the Brunswick Gold Crown. Would like to know your thoughts on the table and how it compares to the other versions like the Gold Crown 3 and 4.

Thanks

Kevin

the pool room in duluth ga. has one and it's very nice. there is a thread somewhere on here about pool in atlanta if you do a search you should find it. the table i am speaking about has modified pockets to make them a little tighter. i say mod not shimmed because the table mechanic (mark g.) posted on here he modded the rails not shimmed. the table rolls true, the rails are very lively and the over play of the table is smooth as silk. if you would like better info on the specifics of the table you can pm mark. he posts on here i believe as perfect pocketz or something simmilar (again search the members under p and you will find it).

I think it's the best designed Gold Crown so far, much better than the 3's or 4's, not even close with the 1's or 2's either. But, same cushions as the 4's, same leg pedestals. Pocket castings have been changed a LOT, but have to be made to fit by a mechanic if they're going to fit right, but the mechanic better know what he's doing!! Best slate frame Brunswick has ever made. Slates are the same as the 4's, leveling system is the same as well.

So, it plays just like a 1,2, 3, or 4, depending on who sets it up;)

cushions seem softer, also seems like you can push a ball deeper into them and beet the kiss on banks. I say "seems" because mine is brand new and I never playhed on a new table before, perhaps the rubber will stiffen up a bit, I know its B-Wick Super Speed and should play the same as on a 4, but for now the rubber is softer.

the frame is much better Glen didnt say why, he should with pics, there is a major design flaw on the 4 he discovered, and only 2 triangle shaped pieces of wood hold the ends up on the table(here comes the chit hitting the fan:thumbup: ) I didnt say nuting til now, but i'm in a foul mood after betting on the wrong guy in the final tonight, and I lost to a guy who I like to especially win $$$ from, so it really pissed me off.

so Glen tell'em about what you found...

Gc V

I played on a GCV, I really like the way it plays. I do like the new pocket castings and the tighter pockets. The only issue I had, the casting were not completely flush with the rail. I noticed in the thread on Fatboy's GCV, RKC was able to resolve this defect.

I was in Mr Cues 2 in Atlanta last year on business. They had about 15 brand new GC5's. They were hands down the best looking table I have ever seen in my life.

I did not play on one, unfortunately, so can't comment on its play.

Next time you roll through central Pennsylvania - please PM me. I want you to have a look-see with my GC4. I don't like how the metal corners behind the corner pockets stick up--- they'll gouge the shit out of your shaft if you're not paying attn.

The design flaw in the GC4's is in the frame rails. Then end frame rails are attached to the side frame rails with dowels and a single bolt at each corner. The problem is that if you use any kind of shims or the Brunswick leveling bolts on the end frame rail, no matter how much you tighten the frame bolts, it'll still sag over time, causing the slates to drop down at the foot and head rails, making the table appear to play high in the middle. What you have to do to fix this design problem, is lag bolt some 1/4" x 2' L channel to the side frame rails, extending the channel out far enough so that it supports the end frame rail, then it's fixed permanently. As soon as I deliver and setup Fatboy's GC4 at Freds house on my way to the factory, I'll post pictures of the fix so everyone can see. This support fix can be done to GC4's that are already set up and playing, as there is no need to take the table apart to support the end frame rails.

Glen,

You are "The Man"! LOL.

Over the last several months I have taken every opportunity to speak to any "table mechanic" that I can. Most are simply felt applicators. Every one that I spoke with was hungry for some kind of training to become more of a Table Technician.

People, there is something "Really Big" coming down the pike, and it's gonna change the game we love so much It's hard to imagine.

Glen, I can't wait for things to come together!!!

Talk to you soon buddy!
