BSCP vs. Alex..this is the video,,judge for yourself

BSCP statement

accorging to BSCP , they removed him fro the line-up because..I quote

"The BSCP stated that Pagulayan was replaced after a review of his conduct during his semi final match against Ibrahim Amir of Malaysia in the Singapore leg last July 15 when Pagulayan lost a close match 11-13 and not for any other reason.

In an official statement sent to Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today which reported the allegations of Pagulayan on AZ Billiards , the BSCP said it found Pagulayan?s actuations during the match ?unworthy and unacceptable for a representative of a country that is regarded today as ?the epicenter of pool. His antics amounted to ?sharking? ? the pool term for acts to disrupt and disarm one?s opponent in order to win. So gross were his actions that in the end Ibrahim repaid him in kind.?

...judge for yourself...to me this is just typical Alex that the whole billiard and pool world had loved eversince...even the fans on this match were aplauding alex...

if really this the reason for him getting sacked...to me it's really time to make changes at BSCP...it's ridiculous... and what about notifying alex before him flying to the Philippines if really that is their intention...

also in that match alex scratches. pulls the cue ball out to hand it to the ref. then yanks it back real quick. and does it like 3 times. very funny. not a big deal IMO.

This certainly does not qualify as sharking. It may be quirky, animated, and even weird, but I see nothing wrong with this.

cuycuy, a member of this forum, is from raya sports and is, i believe, related to yen makabenta, president of raya sports and the current BSCP chairman. Yen Makabenta was last year's BD Man of the Year for Raya Sports' successful staging of the 2006 WPC in Manila. i wonder what he has to say regarding this controversy?

he looks a like he might have a little "sugar in his tank" :D..... other than that it didnt seem that bad...

BTW... Awesome shot that was.......almost perfect

Alex has been this way for years, and now all of the sudden it's inappropriate? Sometimes pool can be as exciting as watching paint dry. People like Alex are a good thing for the sport IMO.

JMHO... if we had 1000 professional pool players that were just as animated as Alex Pagulayan perhaps there would be money in pool. Think about it.

Ban him!

I think Alex should be banned from every organized pool event in the world. How dare him behave in a way to embarrass the Philippines? Ban that guy that is always grinning and rubbing the back of his head when he screws up or another player makes an exceptional play too. It is an obvious sharking move that he has used for years to get under other player's skin. Need to ban Francisco too, I remember when he won his first big event. The way he grinned from ear to ear and shouted certainly wasn't dignified.

Really I think that all of the current Filipino players should be banned and an all new group selected because I can't think of one that hasn't acted like a living breathing human being at one time or another. Surely they have all embarrassed the Philippines, the world epicenter of pool!

Hu

I'm torn on this one.

Whereas banning Alex may seem inappropriate, his actions were much "worse" than doing a jig in the end zone after a TD. Yet the NFL has banned that type of behavior, finding it "Unsportsmanlike Conduct".

Yes, in the NFL you get fined instead of banned - but why bother fining a Pool Player? (Blood from a turnip) :p

In many other major, well organized sports, you could not act like Alex did and get away with it. Golf - can you imagine Tiger jumping like a giddy teenager after a great shot? Tennis and most other major Non-Team sports would frown on this childish behavior as well.

Before someone retorts with "those Sports have Sponsors and those Players make gazillions" --- which do you think came first??

You obviously haven't watched many of tiger's highlights... How about when he points at the ball going in and follows it towards the hole, then does the exaggerated fist pump and then high-fives his caddy? That's just one example of many.

I have a feeling - just a guess of course - that if Alex had done a "fist pump" that we wouldn't be writing these posts right now......

And "high fives" are as common in sports as breathing. However, I think there's limits to what an athlete can do. Alex crossed that line.

Again - I'm not necessarily agreeing that his being Banned was the correct censure. It sounds harsh. But surely we don't know all the history.

This whole thing, the clowning, was the lame excuse when it turned that he just ruffled some feathers because of his unjustifiable demands on a pilot TV pool program.

Now decide, if you really think that Alex getting booted out of the team is not a payback from a very pissed man.

If that video is the basis for Alex's misdemeanor, they should have also reprimanded other Filipino players like Bustamante who had cursed, in Filipino of course, on live international TV :(

it seems as though i have seen film clips of pga golfers who literally jumped in a lake surrounding the 18th green when they won a tourny.you know those rednecks would never celebrate a nascar victory w/champagne spewing,or football players throwing the ball in the stands after scoring a td , or world class jockeys pumping their fist after winning a breeders cup race, or soccer players showing theri tits after a world cup victory, or baseball players taking a bow after coming out of the dugout to celebrate a world series , game deciding homerun. maybe all these "losers" should be banned for letting their emotions shine through.
