anyone know where to get two buckhorn ferrules?
prathers and atlas don't list them
thanks, brent

Look on ebay for buck horns and then use the very tip of the tines for ferrules. It is hit or miss whether you will get good horns. I bought 4 elk horns just to get enough usuable material to make one handle. The pithy part of the interior came too close to the outside on most of it to use. I read that many of the so called buck horn ferrules on older cues are really moose. I have cut moose, elk and regular white tail deer antlers and think you will get more ferrule material out of Moose tines. The problem is when buying moose they usually price it by the pound and the huge fan is just about useless. So I found usuable parts out of moose antlers to cost almost as much as elephant ivory and they were a lot more labor and trouble to get out of the antler. Elk and white tail have too much pithing to hold consistant parts. All three have alot of waste. But regular white tail buck horn is usually cheaper to come by.

You have to make them.
I don't know any maker who'd sell his.
Too much love in making these things.

try calling Paul Huebler. He still uses buckhorn for his ferrules on really high end cues. He will sometimes sell parts if you ask - but they will be expensive.

good luck

There is no buckhorn listed on beads & billiards.

Kerry Zeiler (Zylr cue) told me similar story to what Chris Hightower said .. basically, only a portion of the horn can be turned into a ferrule and thus it's very expensive.

Buck horn ferrules

I have four of them from old Brunswick stock. Unfortunately they're .450 to .475 but if you can use them I'd be happy to donate them to your project.

White tail are kinda small for joints but good for ferrules.

I have not b/c they look small and I got a bunch of stags already turned.
The ends of the first two might make it as collars. The third one won't for sure.
I turned enough stags for a few cues months ago.

If the antlers are from deer that have been killed, the ferrules will be full of blood & will be a dark pinkish gray color, when you polish them. Antlers from deer that have shed them, will be gray/white in color...JER
