Buckhorn needed

I'm looking to get a piece of buckhorn to be used as a Hoppe ring. But I don't know much about the material other than it's looks. I'd like a piece that looks 'dirty' with black in it. Is there any particular kind I should be looking for? Anyone know a source where I can get a piece for this? I only need enough for 1 cue. Thanks in advance for your time.

I bought some a few years ago from chris hightower i never have used it i bought a but cap and some ferules
