Bucktooth vs Alpo - Old School One-Pocket - 1 to 2

I thought I knew a fair amount about pool gambling but I've never heard of one pocket where the players go to just 1 or 2. Is this rare or just a gap in my pool knowledge?
 
Where was this match? I have known Rich for years and he played in my league for a while. What a character!

both bucky and alpo are way over the hill here and they still play pretty well as you can see.

to get a gambling match with two players that know the ropes you have to have some kind of a trick game to make it interesting and maybe have one of them not be able to know how much the spot it worth.
generally if you matched up with bucky you had the worst of it by far. only occasionally he lost and that was when it required lots of shooting balls against a good pocketer.
