That one surprised me. He seemed to get about the worst possible result out of it though. I think I see what he was trying to do but clearly risky. I don't feel qualified to fully criticize it tho.
Definitely turned out bad. But what was he supposed to do there? He's got to give him the ball, and he was clearly worried about leaving Sky the bank. Maybe make Sk's ball and draw the cue ball up table?

Yes, their 4:00 PM match is still going at 11:00 PM. They are two notoriously slow players. Had this been the stream match, there would have been a lot of requests for a refund from poolactiontv.
One pocket is a game that can take less than five minutes or over two hours. Heaven help the audience if two players that know what they are doing get in a wedge game. I found the game intensely interesting when neither Gabe or Varner made a ball for over fifteen minutes but every shot served a purpose. People that didn't understand one pocket would be losing their minds with boredom.
I was in a weekly event at Buff's and my first game of the first match went close to an hour and a half. Just because we were holding up the whole event I finally took a shot I didn't like. I lost. No way in hell I would have taken that shot had I paid two thousand to enter or was looking at a pay out of major duckies.
Anyone entering a one pocket event or watching should know the possibilities. Some gamblers were/are known as grinders that don't mind games that run over an hour too. Good to know in advance if a race to three might be an all day sucker!
I like one pocket but I know there is always a risk of eight and out or over an hour a game. If playing somebody a private match best to put a time restraint on things if you aren't ready to play for hours. I found the opposite funny. A man told me "last game" then immediately accidentally scratched. Since it was an accident, only one ball on the spot. I loaded up a lot of inside and trickled down to the foot rail after making the ball on the spot to tap in the winning point. He started racking. "I thought you said last game?" "I didn't know that one was over!"

but you know going in it's like this, long race, no shot clock and on top of that they don't smoke inside anymore
Last I knew they could smoke in the original hall but not the expansion. Has that changed?

think it's maybe tournament specific, was the same last year. from what i've seen they go out
JJ is playing some good stuff, albeit at JJ pace. he beat billy and mickey earlier. i think scott may tap out if it goes on til morning though
The older I get the less I see the fairness of losing due to exhaustion. Little recourse in a tournament but in a gambling match I am getting inclined to give a thirty minute to an hour warning and if things are still far from decided I am going to take a twelve to twenty-four hour break. Even a couple hour snooze can make a big difference.

pride and fumes are keeping them going.. whoever wins this match is doomed anyway, play til 5 or 6 in the morning only to face a rested SVB.. forget it

checking in again. 10 hours, the wedge from hell is ongoing at 4-3, and the level of play is pretty rough
I’d been playing one hole for a month …late 70s…playing a guy $50 a game at Geri’s Palace in Blue Ash OH…he was too good for me….my 6x12 shot making was keeping me in the game…I’m stuck one game…he needed two, I needed three…he left a ball hanging in his hole.
I knew what I was supposed to do….just make it…I went for a rail first with massive spin…made it…still supposed to make his ball…made a three in the corner…still supposed to make his ball….made a two banker to win the game…he paid the $50 and said “If you want to keep playing, the price is $200 a game….I took my cue apart. I hated backing down but it was the right thing to do.
Went south to Knoxville and Chattanooga….played one pocket every chance I got…kept getting smarter. Couple months later, I’m waiting for him at Geri’s ….he came in second day….told him we can now play $500 a game…he grinned..”Been playing a lot of one hole, have you? I’ll pass.”That was good enough for me.
