I have been away for awhile,and out of touch with the pool world .I was wondering about the health of my pool idol Leonard "Bugs" Rucker .If anyone here knows the current health situation of Bugs ,would you kindly inform me.Last I heard,his legs were amputated as a direct result from complications of diabetes .Bugs has been in my thoughts and prayers ever since I learned of his failing health..

Any word on Bugs?

Note:This is intended to be a serious thread about Bugs .Not Walt Frazier,or Tony Green,or Kamakiriad,or anything trivial .Out of respect for Bugs,i ask that this thread be kept on topic.

I had heard that it was only one leg that was amputated, which is still a hell of a thing to have taken from you:(
 
The great Bugs

I was gonna do a Bugs report anyway. I just dropped off the final monies from the raffle Steve Booth held to help Bugs out. Almost 7 dimes was raised from AZ and Onepocket.org members. Thanks fellas. We even had one good guy, Alan Ende, buy a set of balls and several cue balls that I had Bugs sign, and I sent them to Alan for a big buck. Thank you Alan. On a sad note, Bugs is just hanging in now and I am very worried. He had a bad infection and had to be hospitalized. He's being moved again, back to a nursing home, but just where hasnt yet been determined. His daughter promised to let me know as soon as. He wont even talk on the phone anymore. Hopefully, its just all that medication -- and they do keep him loaded up -- and when the infection is overcome he'll start to feel better. We should all pray for a miracle because it would be wonderful if he could just be able to make it to Derby City one more time.

i understand about the medicine, with my backache when i feel bad I dont take calls either-i just hide. There is no question in my mind that Bugs is greatful for what everyone has done for him and when he feels better he will be back to good spirits again. Him knowing that people care is HUGE, it is for me too but its hard to pick up the phone, I dont like to give people bad news, so when I'm good then I talk. I can talk on the internet but not on the phone. Bugs will be good soon as the infection clears up, that can take a while
 
Retraction

I need to submit somewhat of a retraction. I stated earlier that nobody from Chicago gave a sh*t except Darrell Abernathy (pool room owner, grew up in Bug's room on 63rd). It turns out John Lanvin and some of the boys from Red Shoes Billiards, on their own, sent over a couple of care packages to Bugs. I shoulda known John wouldnt forget to support Bugs. My apologies to SOME of the guys from Red Shoes. (Red Shoes is the pool room in Chicago where most of the guys that used to play with Bugs on 63rd now call homecourt.)

Sylvester is the official curator of Black pool history and is writing a book on that subject. He works for the airlines, so he gets around everywhere.

Good post Freddie. Name the good guys. Forget the bad guys... they don't deserve a place in your head. Use the cells for a purpose.

Hope Bugs will recover and that Fats will get past the pain. I've had pain that was strong enough and that wouldn't go away, and that appeared to be not EVER going away and suicide was a frequent thought that began to sound feasable. I can empathize and my heart goes out to Bugs, Fats, and anybody with chronic and ALMOST intolerable pain.

I have been told on totally reliable sourses that John Lavin's partner, John Zaksas, is one of those other GOOD GUYS, Jim. In fact, I was told that Zaksas sent a personal package via a friend to Bugs as well. Lavin and Zaksas are good people. If you are in the Chicago area you need to drop by Red Shoes Billiards. Yes, there is action to be had.

I would also like to thank Freddie for his invaluable assistance in helping Bugs through this toughest of times. TAP, TAP, TAP.

I shoulda mentioned Zaksas. I sorta bunched him together with his pard Lanvin. I might as well say this too. Red Shoes is a players room. They provide special consideration for players and action, and brook NO shennanagins. (Watch out for Zaksas, he plays reeaally good!)
