Burt Kellerman pool cue auction List

I put some email bids in for part 1 with Vince, and they were by no means low-ball bids, and when I contacted Vince again he told me I wasn't even close...

That's funny, if you thought part 1 was overpriced, you should have been to part 2.

I'm convinced that the people there were afflicted with auction fever. Fortunately, I had my innoculation the first time around.

salamander's negativity

Here at Corbett's we believed it would be best to post on Az for the simple fact that you folks are in the pool community. We wanted everyone to have a fair shake at getting one of Bert's cues. It was his wish that people he knew, befriended and admired have a chance to admire his collection and possibly own some of his cues. His wife thought our auction house was the best venue for this. Your bad-mouthing is a serious slam to Bert's wishes. Bert's true friends that showed up for the auction had nothing but wonderful things to say. All in all it was a wonderful day and we got to meet some truly awesome people and pool players!

Sincerely,

My opnion:mad:-I don't think store front "Auction Houses" should be able to post there up coming auctions on Az. As this gentleman did! He is highjacking Free advertising for a free standing place of business, way wrong.
This guy has never sold anyting on Az. He has only 18 posts, my guess most have to do with his auction house or auction.

I'm sorry but I don't understand. An auctioneer gets ahold of a cue collection and lets the number one spot where cue collectors hang out know about the cues. What's the problem with that? I wouldn't have known about the Gina 30th anniversary cue he had otherwise (although I did get outbid on it). Are you mad at the guy for marketing a product many of us are interested in?

Thanks

Kevin

I'm not sure I see just what you did so wrong here. I guess the point seems to be that you did your job too well and got too high of prices for your consignor, which we both know can't be the case. I was still bidding on the Tad when you hung up, I don't think you could hear me. Anyway, judging from the 2 cues I was interested in, you did a good job marketing some cool stuff.

Thanks again

Kevin

I was at the auction and came with a different purpose than most. Burt was my friend and I didn't feel right asking Kay to part with something without paying for it. I bought one cue and one of Burts Stars and Bars jacket with is 7th place trophy from the Grand Prix tour. Burt was a dear friend and although I may have paid a good price for the one cue I took home, I'm glad I have something to remember my friend by.

Auction

Although the prices that several of the cues sold for at auction were high if the purpose was to flip them and try to make a buck, getting cues at 1/2 the original price is still not a bad deal.
Some of the lower end cues sold for more than Ebay-like prices and some of the cues went higher than expected, but most were bid to exactly what I estimated within $100.

Many of the Schon shafts had issues but overall my cues are straight, I played with every one of them and they all play great even with the old tips.
Some were unchalked.
Myself and many others are very happy with the outcome.
All kinds of people came over to my table Sunday night to try out their auction cues and they were all happy campers.
The people that didn't go to the auction were crying.
The auction house did a great job and I don't see any problem with this auction being posted on AZ.
There were just too many cues to be absorbed in this area and it is really about Mrs. Kellerman.
Personally I would have preferred it to be real quiet, but a lot of people came in from out of state and there was a ton of interest.
I knew from day one that some people were going to be dissapointed, but it is what it is.
I got the cues I wanted and a few as a result of "auction fever", but at the prices they went for I didn't get hurt.

All six of these cues seemed to be great players.
I didn't expect the Schon shaft to be perfect but I have others.

No problem. Stuff happens. I'm on to the next. Don't forget me if you see a banging big sterling flatware set.

Thanks again

I'm not negative at all. In fact, I would like to come up and talk to you about how to open up an auction house. It looks like a very profitable business. I did not know Burt, but I'm glad that you guys got top prices for his cues, his family certainly deserves to get good value for a collection that he took great pains to aquire. The vast majority of the cues went for more than what I've seen similar cues go for at market value. Hence, it was a complete waste of time for me because, guess what, I'm looking for a good deal.

You ran an incredible auction. Brought in prices that I thought were impossible to achieve in this market. It was smoothly run. You made good money for the Kellerman family, you made good money for yourself, and I managed to keep my money in my wallet.

Don't you dare say I'm badmouthing Burt or his family. That is out of line and uncalled for. Shame on you.

Kellerman-Great Opportunity-Corbett Class

I went to both auctions, and was delighted to get the opportunity to purchase any of these cues. Most often, these types of collections never make it to the general public and this time they did (twice). Too, I think Vince and his crew did a bang up first rate job and I look forward to being better prepared next time. I know these times are bad, but winners find a way to rise above the times and they always will. :grin-square:

I was very dissapointed in the way the auction was handled. I called a week ahead of the auction to give proxy bids because I could not attend the auction and was told to call the morning of the auction. I called several times that morning and left several messages with out a return call. I never got a chance to bid on any of these cues.

Anyone know the final price for that TAD? I had a budget for it but forgot about the auction. :frown:

In fact, any way we can get the results for all the cues?

That's odd, that wasn't my experience at all. I spoke with them a few times, requested additional info and got it, requested additional pics and got them. All that didn't happen for me is I didn't get the cue I really wanted for my bid.

Thanks

Kevin

Ghost,
As I recall the Tad went for something like $2200, but I may be mistaken.
I have a complete listing of the winning bids at home.

I don't. I was on the phone bidding and all of a sudden Vince couldn't hear me (I was saying "yes"), either my blue tooth took a dump or it was too loud in the auction house which happens sometimes. I did get my bids in on the Gina 30th but that cue went at least 1 and maybe 2 bids past me. Anyway, on to the next for me all you can do is try your best. Some auction houses release final numbers and some don't, I don't know about this one. I liked the way I was treated there even though I wasn't successful the first time around. Everyone I spoke with was helpful and friendly and honored all my requests. Their buyer's premium is 5% less than anyone in the LA area and they do their own packing and ship at cost. I'll be back looking for more of the stuff I buy at auctions.

Plus it seems they did a very good job for their consignor which is any good auction house's real fiduciary. Complaining because an auction company got too much for something is a joke, what are they supposed to do, stop the bidding?

Thanks

Kevin

Mr. Salamander

With all due respect ,the point of my last comment was you don't have to put your 2 cents in.

Since some would like to know what the cues went for, we can post the prices realized if no one objects.

Thanks to all who bid.
