BUTCHERS WAX for SHAFTS

Guys, -

I dont have any for sale, but about a year ago Varney suggested using Butchers Wax on shafts. The wax is designed for bowling alley lanes and it is dries clear. I especially recommend on new shafts, it is effective on played shafts as well.

It really is the nutz.

For those who might wonder, magic eraser is IMO the best for cleaning and this wax makes the shafts absolutely slick as ice.

I've heard it is the best and highly recommended. Just can't find it here in my part of the world. Might ask Varney to send me one when my cue is delivered.

Well some AZer made a post and was selling cans (remember Turtle Wax size?) for his cost plus shipping.

Shipping was I think more than the wax. I think he got it at a Ace Hardware, but it has been a year or so. Try a google search.

Again, I think because I am not selling any, tells you that I honestly think it is the nutz.

Does it rub off at all on the rail cloth or in your case?

If not, my shaft could use some slickening so I might have to try some. :)
 
What's the best way to apply it? And can it be removed easily if necessary?

I put it on a paper towel and apply to shaft for about 2 minutes. I then set it aside for a about 2 minutes, then take a soft terry cloth and polish for about 2 minutes.

Does not come off. I dont understand why you would want it removed, but I assume rubbing alchol might cut it.

Got it at Ace Hardware for about 8 bucks.If they dont have it at the store they will order it from their warehouse and be there in a couple of days.
Some might not like the smell of it though.
 
Stuff sounds great, but has anyone had anyone problems with it building up and not being whipped away clearly?..i used mothers caranuba on the butt end of my cue and it shinned up real nice after i had to mess with it for a while.
 
Would Johnson's Paste wax work as well?

I talking about the old-school stuff my mom used on the hardwoods at home.

Ordered mine from Ace Hardware @ $6.49 per can. Most of their stores do not stock it, but it is in their Catalog if you can get them to look it up.

Well worth the time and the small money you pay for great protection
and a Smooooooooooth Shaft.
 
Another solution

While at the Derby this week I paid a buck for a piece of leather that's rough on one side. Using that side, you roll this strip of leather around your shaft and burnish it. Supposedly, this supplies a "silky glide" that really improves your shaft.

And apparently, it actually works, although I haven't yet tested it at the table.

I think the other good thing about the butchers is the more you use it the better it works. Seems to help clean the shaft as well.

I would suggest searching for Varney's thread where he talks about it. It was from that thread that persuaded me to try. I think I reapply every 3 weeks or before a big tournament/league night.

Haven't looked back since.
 
I bought a can of this about 7 months ago. I applied it to a players sneaky and the Mc Dermott that I had at the time it worked great and is still working great on the players sneaky.

I've been thinking about putting on my OB1 shaft but I'm kinda worried it might damage it since this shaft is laminated, Has anyone used this on a OB1 before ?
