Who makes a good one? It seems that they are usually less $$ than traditional cues. Is this right?

I 2nd Brent's butterflies. They play even better than they look. I have a handful of his cues and I'm very happy with all of them. His merry widows are very nice as well.
+1 here. Plus his customer service is first class. Fast response and very detail when taking customers order. Email him, you won't regret.

[/COLOR]My vote goes to a too soon gone, Paul Fanelli.
I could not believe it when I found out he passed away, but Paul Fanelli was probably the most inventive when it came to figuring out new ways to build butterfly cues.
I am still stunned when I think about the fact that he is no longer here with us, making the incredibly intricate, complex cues he was able to design and build. He is sorely missed and the world is a lesser place without him in it.
RIP Paul, I wish you were still here with us...

I recently saw some Darrin Hill butterfly cues that were awesome. Not cheap though.
Brent is also at the top of the list. As you can tell, he well respected around here.

Any Cuemaker should be able to build Butterfly cue.
But one cuemaker never stop building butterflycue when they wasn't in demand was Dieckman. Go to the source which would include BHQ Brent Hartman, Dave B, and numerous others.
Helmstetter/ Adam Cue alway made Butterfly Cue.

I have seen many butterfly cues that paul has made and in my opinion he is one of the best cue makers out there today . i have owned three of pauls cues and if i didnt start making my own i would still be playing with one of his today. I have worked for paul (as a grunt) and use many of his techniqueswhen building my cues.

Working for paul was a great experience. I remember when i first started to play pool i went to Pauls house to have him change my tip . I was looking (drooling) at his cues and I had commented on one that he was making for a florist .It had a vine wrapping all the way up the cue to the joint with a flower at the top . I was amazed and asked if he had painted the image on the cue !!!! This was well before I knew how much work went into making a cue . He replied with a little bit of a attitude "I don't paint anything"!!! It was kinda funny . I have nothing but respect for Paul he is a great teacher and lets you know when you make a mistake

He has always told me "If you want to spend a lot of money become a cue maker" , that is a true statement but I love to see peoples reaction when they come to pick there cue up or showing one that I have made. I started out at Pauls with a machining background so I was able to pick it up quickly . I currently work a full time job and make cues on the side . I make around five per year . The pictures are of the last cue I have built with the 3d model I drew.
