Buyer Pays Insurance for Shipment?

I am posting this in the Wanted/For Sale section as it seems most appropriate, mods please move it if necessary.

I have seen a lot of recent for sale ads here on AZ where the seller is charging extra for insurance of the shipment. These seems to be a recent thing, as I have been buying and selling here on AZ since 2005 and have never seen this. I know that shipping is expensive, especially for high-priced items, but I have always thought that it was the seller's responsibility to provide insurance, which I have always done.

I guess times are changing, sadly.

I’ve rarely had to put insurance on a shipment
When I do it’s only 1 dollar per hundred

The seller can cover it no issue
If they refuse
I’d find someone else to deal with

Yes, this thread is definitely in the wrong section since there is nothing for sale that complies with this forum’s specific requirements for starting a new thread or posting on an existing one. It’s pretty black & white this thread is misposted.

The mods will be moving it so for other readers, please do not post to keep this thread going. It belongs in the Main Forum so allow the Mods the opportunity to fix this inadvertent misplaced thread. It will be kept alive with further posts after it gets placed in the Main Forum where it is supposed to be.

Only a very well off person would ship without insurance, your saying pennies to protect far more then pennies.

i always quote the full price of the item -- what they have to pay me to get it delivered to them. I dislike it when as a buyer I'm asked for shipping, packaging, PayPal fee, etc., after the fact, so I don't do that to buyers. Just give the total price at the start.

When I post something for sale the price includes everything, shipping, insurance and and payment fees.

Along the lines of the sellers who ask 4+% for PayPal fees. Is the fee really that much?

The key word , as far as credit card companies are concerned to protect the seller is “item delivered”. I have shipped over 100 cues, much more probably, and I use Fed Ex only- every cue was delivered. To me, insurance flags the word “valueable” to possible thieves and collecting on insurance is the biggest headache on earth.

So, as the seller, I accept full responsibility that Fed Ex will deliver to your address without insurance paid by me. If not delivered - I take the full hit. If the buyer insists on insurance - go elsewhere please, Because I am now left fully exposed to all kinds of buyer claims on shipping damage - which is NOT possible the way that I pack cues- or worse, claims of an opened and switched item - usually fraud on the buyer’s part- both claims leave the seller fully at the mercy of credit card companies and shipper insurance claim hell - NO THANK YOU YOU!

If you buy from me, you get the item as described, delivered to your address or you get a full refund -what could be more simple?

The buyer insures.
If he files a claim, it's him that gets paid for damages or lost merchandise.
Long as seller can prove shipping....his job is done.

it is up to the seller to deliver it in condition as advertised.
insurance should have nothing to do with the buyer. who if smart pays with paypal or credit card and can contest the sale it anything goes wrong.

all fees are negotiable between buyer and seller as what they are willing to do. simple as that.

if you dont like the deal dont buy it.

Times do not change with regard to TRUSTED seller integrity. The seller of cues (or most anything of real value) with any business sense ALWAYS prices in insurance and SIGNATURE confirmation unless specifically told not to by the buyer in a written message to the seller. For domestic sales this is gospel. It is generally the sellers responsibility to have confirmation the product was delivered to the buyer. The exception is with overseas transactions or overseas buyers using an intermediary.

For overseas sales most buyers want to evade paying customs duty. Cues can only be insured for the customs amount declared. When a buyer wants to claim $250 value on a 4k cue, I can only insure it for $250. I only accept secure payments from overseas. So if the buyer wants to accept the risk of undervalued insurance, it is totally agreed beforehand that the risk is on them. For intermediary deals I am 100% out of the delivery once the product is received and accepted by the intermediary. With cue sales times only change with the shysters.

The key concept is "risk of loss". Law and contract determines. Whoever has the risk needs to insure. Stipulated risk remains on seller until buyer accepts.

This stuff is like birth control -- it really needs to be discussed during negotiations, prior to commencement of performance.

If I’m selling something, the cost of insurance will be figured into the sale price. Not negotiable. It’s a matter of protecting myself 1st.
Agree. Just add-up the total: cue+ship+ppal fee+ insurance= Total price. Simple.
