well hell , then us newbies are screwed then by that way of thinking, lol. i think that is ridiculous IMO. if i pm some guy FIRST , and say i take it ,i should get the FIRST choice. and if im a newbie then you should state in your sale threads no sale to newbies so not to waste their time. that is plain silly. or hell if i wanted to buy soemthing and if seller wants money first id send the damn money first, but mostly folks get higher bids then screw the first i take it .

Eric, you're making your own bed here and you've got to expect repercussions. First of all, if you sent me a PM wanting to buy something from me, I would simply delete it. So you're not really a good example.

But let's say I DID NOT know you as I have learned to know you from your recent posts - if I agreed to sell my item to you, then you get it - period. The only thing that would stop that would be if your communication was crappy and you started changing the terms of payment, length of payment, etc. On the other hand, I am NOT a store. So if a friend (such as Craig or Dave) who I knew from past history was good for their money and quick payment with no hassle (unlike many on AZ :)), and I had NOT agreed to anything with you, then guess who I'm selling to? So no, I would not call off a deal once it's made, but if I open my PM's and find 3 or 4, I'm selling to the earliest one that I feel comfortable with.

I'm not alone in this way of thinking, and it's simply because I feel the average i.q. of this board has dropped about 40 points in the last two years, and it makes it tougher and tougher to get a deal done without headaches. Eric, you look like a headache waiting to happen - I'm not a newbie, and you have an attitude against everyone who isn't a newbie - do the math. Perhaps after you've been posting for a while and calm down some, you'll be a guy I trust completely, but we're not there yet.

However, am I the only one here who See's back ground trading, if so I still stand behind what I have said.

Craig, I've run into this sort of thing myself, but not when prices were posted. When it's obvious to me that I'm being put on hold with my offer, while the seller continues to fish, I tell the seller "goodbye". It's that simple. So I don't really care about background shilling, auctions, etc. Those types of sellers will be outed, and it will hurt their business imo.

I'm sure I've PM'd people accepting their sell price and missed a deal because, by the time they checked PM's, a friend had contacted them. I'm certain that happens a lot, and I have no problem with it. Like I said, I'm not a store or a business - just a guy moving cues and stuff around as part of my hobby. And I'm doing it with friends when possible, because that's more fun than doing it with enemies or weirdos.

I mentioned it previously, but I have had a couple of deals where sellers went off and asked other AZ'ers about a deal they were doing with me, and they received cr*p information because the other AZ'er either wanted the item, or wanted it 'available' in case they changed their minds. Those AZ'ers will never do deals with me in the future, and I make sure that my friends know who they are. So they win in the short run, and lose in the long run. Somehow, I get pleasure from that knowledge. I'll add that some of the people involved are great guys who I sort of consider friends - but I won't deal with them, because they have what I consider a warped attachment/desire for pieces of wood that screws up their thinking.

I have my own take on selling on this board. If and when I sell something I put instructions in the description to PM me with questions but to confirm a purchase of the item in the thread so everyone can see who was the first person to claim the "sale".

That being said, I still hold right of refusal because it is my item and ultimately my loss if a deal goes south. If a new poster or a poster whom I have any reservations dealing with wants my item they will pay how I want them to so as to limit my liability. I believe I have that option. I may request a MO from someone new whereas I would send an item to some posters with the promise they would pay me upon examination of said item.

But I will still give the first person to respond that they want the item the option to purchase it as long as they are willing to meet my criteria.

By removing threads you are saying to us peons...

Hmmmmm..... Maybe that's what you think of yourself, but I wouldn't be so quick to call everyone else out here a peon.

My personal opinion of the thread that was deleted was that it started out kind of okay and went south, real fast. I was appalled at what I was reading. I couldn't believe it was being allowed on AZB and although it surprised me when I saw it had been locked, I was glad. Bad experiences happen. That's no reason for some of the out-of-control things that were said in that thread.

Last I noticed, the sticky about the rules still says...

"By agreeing to these rules, you warrant that you will not post any messages that are obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws.

To be included, there will be no ad hominem attacks. No name calling nor insults. Disagreeing with someone is fine, but calling them an idiot because of their opinion is not.

All posts will be kept civil.

Items that will be allowed for sale must be pool related.

The owners of AzBilliards Forums reserve the right to remove, edit, move or close any thread for any reason.
I have read, and agree to abide by the AzBilliards Forums rules."

With that in mind, I believe there was definitely reason to "remove, edit, move or close" the thread in quesiton. Some of us consider disrespectful, angry temper tantrums unfit for a public forum, where people are supposed to be able to discuss and share in a more relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere. It is also quite possible children are reading posts in the forums. If pool is going to survive in the world we live in, we need to teach the younger generations how to be responsible and follow rules. Without rules being upheld, pool wouldn't be worth playing and this forum wouldn't be worth joining.

As for buying and selling on this forum...

If I find someone who seems to be respectable and has something to sell that I want on this forum, I will probably buy it. But, I think I'll save my selling experiences for eBay. At least on eBay, it's easy to tell who gets the item. And, if a seller doesn't contact you or pay within a reasonable amount of time, you can try again. I'm sure I may find some exceptions to my own opinion, but for now, that's just how I feel about it. Nobody can get mad, because they wrote me, first. If you don't do the bidding when it counts and bid high enough to win, you lose. Period.
