Buying a used custom

What is the point of buying a used custom? I can understand getting one made to your exact specifications, but why buy someone else's, and why pay top dollar for it?

You are focusing too much on the "custom" part and forgetting the "cue" part of a custom cue.

Yes it was custom made for someone else, but that does not mean it is not an
excellent cue with which fits your needs exactly.

That being said, the two main reasons people buy a used custom cue as opposed to a new
one is waiting time or lack thereof and off course the price.

I guess the question you are trying to ask is why pay top dollar for a used cue?

No idea, I wouldn't.

The rest is semantics.

Shocker. ;)

A person will buy a used custom cue for the very same reason they'll marry someone who has been married before. Hell, I've already had three custom cues, and there was plenty of play left in all of them. True, one of them was slightly warped, but what the hey. :)

As crazy as it may sound I suppose the reason someone would buy a used custom cue is because they like it.

i don't care who you are, dat's funny right dere. :lmao:

I'd never buy a used condom! That's just plain stupid!
Oh really, did you say custom? Never mind :ignore:

Free

Never buy used condoms again. I will ship them to your door, for no charge, except, you cover S/H.

If the specs match your needs and you lke it,.. Why not?? No long wait time, and most likely it won't be sold at full retail value.

JMHO...

another reason is that very few customs hold their value, so the second owner get a nice cue as a discounted price.

Have you even been over to the For Sale / Wanted section??

Yes, particularly when it's been made for someone else's specs, and, seemingly, when the original owner didn't like it.

Your still mixing un-related points but regardless....

#1 - Most , wait let me rephrase that , MOST custom cues are not 'custom'. It's just a term commonly used to refer to a cue built in something less than mass or high volume numbers. Very very few are built to any standards that fall outside the lines of commonly available options.

#1B - What 'custom' means or should mean is a completely different debate and one that has already been done to absolute death. Not going to waste time on that one here. ;)

#2 - My favorite leather jacket I got from a friend who is shorter than me. He didn't like it , fits me perfect.

#3 - Back to the top dollar question , again , If there are ANY people out there spending full MSRP on used cues I'd love to get thier phone numbers...please. :)

I guess I should add #4....

Sometimes people just like pretty things even tho they may not be good for them. For instance my 'first' wife was a hawaiian tropic swimsuit model. ;)

Yea, I said 'first'.

Why?

Most custome cue are not made to someones spec's. Many cue makers make cues they like or think the public will like and if its a comfortable fit for someone, its sold.

Honestly, it saves a ton of money if you find one you like, plus no wait. And with all the recent horror stories of people getting ripped off by some cuemakers, you may sometimes be better off getting a used one instead.

The grass is always greener. Long ago I stopped asking guys if I could try their cue, because their's always felt better.

what.....

For 80-90% of the custom cues out there, it couldn't be a better 'buyer's market' right now. You can save big time off the price of new on a used cue with minimal play. Was the cue made for you? No......but most playing cues are within a standard framework of specs and many (if not most) are adjustable as far as weight and balance point. The better question is, "Why not buy used?"
