Who do you think would be willing to go to Dallas to play this guy some nine ball? (Even-Up or maybe give a little weight)

15-20 yrs ago... not many, or at least not as many as would be willing today. CJ of course still has a great game as evidenced by his match with George at the DCC. CJ quit playing full time an became a businessman. There's kids out there like Shane VB that started playing when CJ stopped playing.

I don't know if CJ is still trying to get back in stroke in order to qualify or not. I'd like to see him qualify just because he was fun to watch. He shot as fast & as straight as they come back then. It would be nice to watch him in action again.

Even if I was good enough to play him I wouldn't.I met the guy several times and he has been a jerk to me and all that where around. And i watched him play and he did not impress me.

Hopefully this post will chum the waters for CJ, as I know he would like to be part of the IPT and get his game back in tune. This is probably a good time for some decent $$$er's to be made as his pocket probably has some extra $$ to go around.

Shane VB was just here in Dallas playing him some 1000 sets. After several hours they broke even. If CJ started playing again everyday and got his game back, I would want none of it.

Just talked to Shane on the phone minutes ago. He was upset because he didn't know about the Turning Stone tournament, which starts tomorrow. I told him he better start getting all the publications and checking the websites like AZ.

A good opportunity for a prospective stake horse and backer. Shane is a great young talent and an honest kid. I do not have the time or energy to take him around. He really wants to play everywhere he can. He was disappointed in his poor showing at the Venetian. He said he was nervous.

I advised him that he is a young man and will play in many tournaments in his life. Some he will do well in and others he won't. He should not put to much pressure on himself in any one event because there will be another one right around the corner. His mindset should be to go in and play the best he can, and whatever happens, happens.

I went on to remind him that he was fortunate to be starting his career now, when there are better opportunities for poolplayers than ever before. I told him that the older generation did not have these same opportunities. He's a good kid and one of America's best hopes in Pool. But like any young man, he needs a little encouragement from time to time. Bear that in mind if you see him or talk to him.

Thanks

Where did you get this information? I just talked to Shane and he was home in S. Dakota. He has NOT been to Dallas to play C.J. He did play him at Derby City earlier this year and broke even.

Don't post if you don't know.

Many!!!!!!!!!!!!

OK, that's a start Ironman-thanks.

MANY is a lot.

Let's narrow the list of prospective combatants.

Besides the Phillipino warriors who else would like to play him some nine rocket for nice size dollars in Dallas, keeping in mind that there are some who CAN'T gamble because of their committments to sponsors?

Thanks,
JoeyA

He struck me as a rather nice young man when he passed through New Orleans. If you talk to him, tell him to give Jamie Farell a call for some repeat business. :-)

I think this was taken at one of the IPT qualifyers

CJ was a phenomenal talent back in the day. There's an accu-stat match of him playing Steve Mizerak I think it was and Buddy Hall and Dave Bollman were doing commentary.

After they watched CJ run out a tricky rack at hill-hill, in about 40 seconds, they were just laughing at how fast and fearless he shot. Jacked up on the end rail, hard shot all the way to the opposite corner? CJ would take about 2-3 strokes and just SPANK it dead in the hole. CJ at his peak pocketed balls as well as any player I've seen.

Another AZB'er posted a story of him getting drilled by Antonio Lining back in the day for about $5K even when he was playing good, though. I've heard that CJ had a great record against Archer for the cash for a long while.

I was told by a road player who is very good friends with CJ. He told me Shane was in town and played CJ, said he was there. I had no reason to not believe him. So I will post until I find out otherwise. I forgot you are perfect.

> Back when he played his best,he could literally turn on just about his highest gear like a lightswitch, then after about 6 hours it kicked into afterburner. He was good for about 30 hours because his physical condition and mental training was spot-on,thanks to his involvement with martial arts and Eastern culture, where these things are the whole purpose of life. He's played 3-4 sets in front of me that verge on being the best pool I've ever seen. He heard Jose Parica complaining about the added money at a tournament and told him "well, there is a 20,000 added tournament at my place in Dallas every night". His game might not be where he wants it,but it eventually will be back. If you think about it though,he probably made the right choice as far as choosing the business side over his actual play. I have as much repect for CJ"s abilities as anyone, but, right now, he just ain't ready.
We had a long talk in Corpus at the Q acouple of weeks ago. He is determined to get back, but but feels at this time that he has been too long removed frome the game.
CJ is a very determined person with a lot of pride. He will get back, but it is going to take some time.

I spoke to CJ the day before yesterday and he apparently is moving the schedule UP to get back in shape in short order.

I received one PM about a possible game. Are there any others?
Thanks,
JoeyA

Just been watching CJ playing for Team America against Team Puerto Rica in the WTB preliminaries. His fellow teammates were Mike Sigel, Earl Strickland, Jim Rempe and Buddy Hall. The PR team featured Tony Robles and Frankie Hernandez and was captained by a youthful (58) Mike Lebron.
Also on the DVD are a massive 9 player Team America taking on a team of Allstars - Spanish Mike and Hernandez are also in that lineup, together with Chao and Lu from Taipei, Gallindo and Marquez of Mexico, Jose Parica and captain Paul Potier.

Will do. He is headed this way prior to or after the IPT in Reno.
