Was watching a match between Karen & Kevin, hill /hill Kevin missed the six ball, Karen should have given the shot back to Kevin at 1:38:30 based on the Call safe call shots rules explained at 33:50? what do you think?

No way it would be a good decision to let him back to the table there. She had a reasonable shot and opportunity to win the match, she just didn't execute.

Without standing at the table and looking right down the line of the shot, I think it's impossible to say whether the opening she had was good enough that she was right to try for it, or not. She's a great player, though, and the fact that she decided it was an opportunity she'd rather take herself than pass to her opponent says to me that Masayoshi's probably right.

I think promoters should stop making up different rules for each event.

I agree and I'll take a step further. 9 ball and 10 ball should have the same rules. My preference is Texas express.

It is possible Karen simply forgot the rule for that event.

The few times I've heard Earl do commentary, he's been great! He's so focused on the game (as you would expect :grin-square:) and his brain/mouth works quick enough to keep up with the fastest action. The funny thing is that he's very modest about his game during the commentary ("He's got a tough shot here. I always sell out on this shot.") It's like seeing a whole different side of Earl.

I kind of like that 10-ball has both call shot and call shot/call safe rule sets. It's interesting to see how pros revise their strategy for the two different games.

Some people blame all the woes of pool on the lack of standardized rules. I also put "lack of standardized rules" on the list of pool's problems...at about #99 on the list.

I'd like to take it yet another step further..... just do away with these carnival games and stick to real pool! Straight pool and 1pkt.

I agree Earl makes a great commentator. I really like it when he describes what english to use to get the position,, it helps low level players like me. Refreshing to hear his genuine humility come through.

He is quite passionate about a 4 pocket table isn't he?

IMO, 4 pockets table is a disadvantage to Earl, his stroke is not as good as many other pros when it comes to long shots? especially DAZ, Thorten, Niel F, Alex P, some Chinese players and few others..but he is the pool God dare say no!!

Until and unless that happens 9 and 10 ball should have the same rules. Why they thought they needed a new set of anal rules for 10 ball I don't understand.

Well, I think it was because that they realized 9 ball was a carnival game and tried to take some of the luck out of it. The thing is IMO this smash em and pray mentality had them so stuck into the mindset of rotation games, no one considers promoting real pool, just attempt to make these games less carnival. But alas, you can mix horse shit with cow shit and dog shit, and in the end, it's still shit.

Any ya know, even though I don't play the game .... even 8 ball is a better game than that redundant paint by number stuff as far as I'm concerned.

Theoretically, you can play a race to 7, 9 ball and pocket 7 balls in total to your opponents 56 balls total and win. What kind of waste of time is that??

Why not just put the nine ball on the spot, freeze the CB to the center of the headrail and see who makes it first. Cut out all those unnecessary balls.
