Calling all pro speed players

but why do you give boogeyman's posts on the issue even the time of day here. He could be in junior high school. We have no freakin idea who he is. He claims to have testosterone. But he must keep that in a jar because it's pretty clear where he DOESN'T store it.

"My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." The "my name is" is about owning up to who you are and standing by what you say.

https://yhoo.it/2LvTTAG

Even after pointing this out he still hides behind his chicken shield.
There is no action being killed here. That's delusion 101...

Mike, he has revealed himself to me. For his own reasons he doesn't want to go public until a game has been made, and I fully understand that. Look Mike, here's a guy who wants to take the worst of it and bet $2,500! Who am I to stand in his way?

I've met a lot stranger people in poolrooms in my day that also liked to gamble and I was only too glad to accommodate them. Boogey doesn't bother me at all. I kind of like hearing all his boasting. What's not to like?

You may as well set up a match with a random guy off street. I'm slightly above a 600 Fargo Rating skill level, but I'm smart enough to realize that playing Chen would be basically watching her play and run racks, in between me getting to kick at a few balls occasionally.

Yeah, he may actually run a rack, but it's not a match that I would want to watch.

Look Grip, he wants the match. We're just trying to help him make it happen. I don't think Roy or Siming care if anyone watches it or not. They're more interested in the $2,500! I believe she only won $1,000 in the match with Donny, so this is a step up in stakes for her. Maybe she'll dog it for the cash. Who knows?

I think it would be a shame if SC wasted a precious day on her trip to the US playing someone nobody knows or has expectations about.

She's only here a certain amount of time. So the real question is she would be playing him INSTEAD of who?

Instead of Shuff? Instead of Robles? Instead of Frost? Instead of Hatch? Instead of a rematch with Donny? Instead of Thorpe? Instead of Bartram? Instead of Chip or Joey in OK? Instead or Chris or Damian or Stan in the pacific northwest? Instead of Brian Parks? This is the question in my mind. Clearly you know something I don't know. But I think the interest here is weird.

Are you sure you want to risk TWENTY DOLLARS?

I have a $100 bill with your name on it if you want my action Jay?

To make my wager clear, and simple:

They ( 'Boogey' and Chen) have the rest of 2018 to set up and play the match.

'Boogeys' identity needs to be made known and verified to avoid any attempts to slip in another player on anyones part at any time (I would guess that you have this information since you are conversing with him about setting up a match)

The match needs to be streamed live for transparency.

If the match happens within 2018, I ship you $100 (cash, money order or paypal, your choice). If the match does not happen in 2018, you ship your $100 to your local ASPCA (I only ask for a receipt of the donation)

Before you decide whether or not to take my wager, please understand that I win with any of the 3 possible outcomes of said decision.

BTW, I will gladly post now if that is something you would prefer.

Man... listening to all this just reinforces the idea I've had for years now... pool has changed! Back in the day, if someone walked into our ( or any ) room and announced, "Yeah... I'm gonna play the best player in the country right here... tonight. For 2500.00. EVEN. We would all have said "Yeah? Cool... want some side?" The last thing anyone would've tried to do was bully or ridicule or verbally berate the guy for taking on "the impossible dream". Hell, we would've asked if he needed anything. A coke? A shot or two of JD? Clean socks? And we would also have told him his idea was the best idea we'd ever heard! "Well hell YEAH, you can win! Abso-f'ing-lutely! BET IT UP!"

Man... have things changed... Or is it just, me Jay? Am I just imagining this?

And you dont see the difference between a guy walking into an actual pool hall with cash and cue in hand and challenging someone versus an anonymous guy running his mouth on the internet about how he thinks he can beat any woman alive because he has testicles?

"Is this your first tournament Duke?"

 Yeah, Chuck... but, no one is really harping on that too much. Most of these comments are about what an idiot he is for even THINKING he could play her even and win! That's what my comment was directed to. Of course you're right about sitting behind a monitor and saying whatever you want. I think we're all MORE than used to that by this stage in the internet-universe! Your point is well-taken.

Is there a big line? Like at the barber shop?

Maybe he is willing to take a number and wait his turn.

Why don't you find out her lineup and then tell us when his "turn" is?

My interest is nothing more than seeing an average person play her. Nothing more, nothing less.

When I played pool decades ago, I thought I could beat any woman and had no problem saying it. I never played any female pros because hardly any existed way back then and I never ran across any of them anywhere I was at. If a woman ever were to have came up to me back then and wanted to gamble, they could have had all my money.

I've watched all the women pros and I think there are probably lots of non-pro men who can beat them. That's not to say everybody can. I'm just saying that they are way easier to beat than a top man pro.

If we were to go back 35 or so years ago, I'd have been willing to give any female pro a challenge bet and give them 2 to 1 odds on their money. I wouldn't give this challenge to a good man player. We play a race to 100. We play the race in one session...start to finish. No breaks except bathroom breaks. No eating. You drink a beer every time I drink a beer. You finish your beer within 15 minutes of me finishing mine and start another one when I decide to start one.

First one to 100 wins or first one to fall out loses.

I've never played a race like that with a woman, but I've played for several days without stopping when gambling with men.

For the record, if I'm in the poolroom pitching quarters for the fourth night in a row with the same three guys, then yes this is awesome excitement. Here it isn't. You seem to be projecting the someone standing up against the odds, not letting anyone tell him he can't climb the mountain thing where I don't think it belongs.

But I get it; you guys don't want me to rain on your parade. So please, carry on...

Ain't my parade.... I ain't got a penny in it.

I give up Mike. These guys just don't get it. I have no idea if this game will come off or not, but they want to bet me that it doesn't. All I'm trying to do is facilitate the game on behalf of my friend Roy and Siming. I know that you understand what's up here. It ain't about who's smarter or who's better. It's all about making the game happen!

There is a delicate balance in the pool world in putting money matches together and ridiculing one of the participants is not part of it. You need to make both sides comfortable with the game, the stakes, the location, the equipment, etc. Same thing goes on when players like Dennis and Scott and Chohan match up, but that's okay with the knockers because that's the game THEY want to see! Meanwhile the guys who put up the money don't care if some unknown steps up to the plate and makes a donation. And they don't care if it's streamed or not!

I can tell you one thing. This guy (who is a decent player - low level shortstop speed) really wanted to play Siming for his own reasons. I'm not sure if all this negativity will cause him to bow out, but it damn sure ain't helping. I guess you can chalk it up to being the age of the internet, where everyone wants to be a wise guy.

Jay, as you well know, sir, the principle here is the same that motivates casinos to comp rooms, meals, girls ( at times ), etc, etc... make the potential betters want to bet more and for longer periods of time. As you just said, to make them comfortable. And that's exactly what players did back in the day. So this guy wants to play the champ and bet it up? MORE POWER TO HIM! And the only thing said to the guy was, "How can we help?" Followed quickly by "Want some side?"

I'm really at a loss at all this, quite frankly. But then, no one's ever accused me of being the sharpest tool in the shed! :grin-square: :grin-square: :grin-square:

I would like to throw my .02 in here:

Does it really matter if the person she plays is "known" or does it matter more if the person she plays can "really play" and brings a good set of skills to the table and actually performs. I enjoyed the match with her and Donny but IMO I know players that would have put more pressure on her that are like me, NOBODIES....

For example:

I do not have a fargo rating at all, I am a complete unkown but I match up with folks that are in high 600's to low 700's from time to time and have even gave a little weight at times and won.

Just because NOBODY knows who I am means it was not a good match to watch? Hell no. Several room owners across Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi call me on a regular basis asking me if I want to be staked with "x" player that is in town. I almost always say no. I'm not into gambling as much as I'm into pool but I'm not scared and prove it from time to time. Like I said, I'm an unknown pretty much everywhere and will stay that way until I decide to change it.

Anyways, you may be correct but then again, you may not be. I hope your wrong for pool's sake.

Just because someone is not "known" or have some numbers on your system does not mean chit to a pool table, balls and the rack.

Again, you may be correct but then again, like Jay said......lets not throw water on it before it gets started.

I want to ask you one thing Mike. Do you think it's a wasted day or two if Roy and Siming make an extra $2,500? Just wondering what your opinion is on this.
As far as i'm concerned his fargorate could be ZERO! :)

Roy and i are good with each other. I don't think our outing of James Aranas cost him anything; in fact I think it went the other way. I like his style. We--FargoRate--need to be viewed as the new normal. I've been talking to Roy.

But I think Donny stepping up was a much bigger deal than the 1K. And I think Roy orchestrating a return trip is a really big deal.

It is hard to put things I value and money on the same scale--apples and oranges. But I would say that Donny v Siming match had the equivalent of a 500K value. And I would say an extended upcoming trip has a notably bigger "value" than that. This is an amorphous concept. i'm not talking about money.

To me if Dippy dave wanted to play Siming Chen for 100K, that would be uninteresting.

I see from some of the other responses that the internet guy is in some way a proxy for these other posters--they I think kind of see him as a stand in for themselves stepping up in a big way and admire somebody taking his shot. He is Rocky to them.

My reaction to this is if THIS situation does it for you, then it is really time to get off the keyboard and look internally.

I don't know that it is an "extra" $2,500, because the day or two replaces something. I want Roy to do just fine. And I'm not actually worried about that.
