Suggested 10-Ball Rules to use
Below is a link to the BCAPL website 10-Ball Rules section. We use the same 10-Ball Rules as the WPA and apply these rules to the U.S. Open 10-Ball Championship that we produce in May. I suggest that you use these as they are becoming the more commonly accepted and known. Hope this is helpful.

Yes, call the 10 (any time during the game)
On the break, it gets spotted.

If you want to play 9 ball rules using 10 ball, nothing wrong with making the 10 ball a called shot.
But, if you make the 10 ball on the break.. .why not keep the 9 on the break rule? after all, you are playing 9 ball rules.

Yes call the 10 anytime during the game, pocketed on the break it get's spotted IMO
Agreed. Texas Express does NOT belong in 10-ball. The very idea of playing 10-ball is to offer a more professional game, sans the pitfalls/vulnerabilities of 9-ball. Not this "let's add one more ball, and 'oh my gosh, you can't believe how much more difficult that one ball makes in the difficulty of the game'" excuse that T.E. advocates use to hide the fact they're not playing the game according to world-standardized rules.

without it you can just tie more balls up

No, that would stay, because that's in the 10-ball WSR. That's probably the only T.E. rule that was brought forward into 10-ball:

10 Ball is played primarily by WPA (World Standardized) rules. The main exception to this relates to rule # 9.7 "Wrongfully Pocketed Balls".
The rule states:
This allows some use of the two way shot (shot /safety) since in the case of a miss where no balls fall the incoming player has no option to hand it back and must take the balls in position.
A few events like the SBE 10 Ball event and some of the Tony Robles/Predator events back east play that the incoming player has the option to give it back on ANY miss, whether a ball falls or not. This eliminates all two-way shots from the game.
Also, while the World Rules spot the 10 Ball on the break, some events allow it except in the two foot corners.
But rule 9.7 seems to be the one that generates the most debate.

BTW, I also don't like the idea of TE slop 10 Ball. To me it is a lose-lose situation. Should TE slop 10 Ball become entrenched it could do what TE9 did to two push 9 Ball and more or less relegate true and proper 10 Ball to the scrap heap of history. On top of that, because 10 Ball solves the problems of the 9 Ball rack, TE slop 10 Ball would also relegate 9 Ball to the graveyard.
If you just have to avoid the problems with the 9 Ball rack, rather than play TE slop 10 Ball, just play 9 Ball with 10 balls racked in a triangle with the 9 (money ball) in the middle. When the balls come to rest take the 10 ball off the table. If it went in on the break it counts as a ball made and the breaker continues his inning. But PLEASE don't call it a 10 Ball event if you're playing TE slop. :grin:

Well I'm going to put call 10 in my rules. Spot if pocketed on break but the breaker has option to spot ten or re rack. So far no

This is one rule I've never really understood. If you have to call the 10 why don't you have to call every other ball? I'm pretty sure in the vnea you have to call the 8.. The reason I've heard for that rule is so you can't slop it in. If that's the case, why can you slop in every other ball? If that's the logic for calling in the last one, and it is good logic, it should be the same logic for every other ball...

Unfortunately, some folks just can't let go of Texas Express rules (it's that old, "you'll pry my T.E. rules from my cold, dead fingers" thing), but they want to get into this new, hip thing called "10-ball." So should 10 ball not be a fast game like 9 ball? Especially on the longer races? Or should I shorten the races and put all the standardized rules for ten ball?

Really, without the call shot rules you're tour is not a 10 Ball tour despite what the name says. It just makes the name look silly, imo. Play proper 10 Ball or play 9 Ball. Given most of the other threads on this topic it is clear that players want 10 Ball to be played by the correct rules and not played as a "new and improved" version of TE slop 9 Ball.
