Can anyone enlighten me about Diamond's retail business model and pricing?

Sorry my friend but how can you sell a product you know nothing about? Being an "authorized" dealer should mean more than just being an order taker. At a minimum this dealer should have had some training in the Diamond line of products, that includes more than just pricing and table sizes.

One would think that would be a requirement, don't ya think? Funny thing is, seems i get a lot of calls to fix Diamond tables....distributors sold, after the fact....where do you think i am right now?....doing a service call on Diamond tables in Spokane, WA.... Diamond sold the bar 7 tables with no back up plan, so to say the least, they need to work on that service plan a little more. Bar calls Diamond, having problems, Diamond calls me....can you go fix....hmmm, what would you do if i wasn't in the state?

Want another example Jay? Manning cues is Diamonds online autherized sales company, they try selling Diamonds to anyone that calls them, but where are they located? Do they send out someone to fix a table not working right, or offer that service with every table they sell? How many of them tables they sell, do they actually deliver and set up? What they should know, and what they DO know is two different things!

Sales, as with all manufactures, is always first and formost the most important thing, service can be delt with on a case by case basis....most of the time.

Service is Everything

Fulfillment, service and follow up are just as important as product selection (sales).

Name one pool, billiard, or snooker table manufacture in the world that sends factory trained table mechanics to service their manufactured and sold products? As long as installers don't have to prove they know what they're doing, then i don't care who builds the equipment, no pool table can be protected from the hackwork to come and the customers that hire them.

OK, a little confused. The dealer (Manning or any other authorized Diamond dealer) sells tables. That's good for Diamond because they have a lot more folks out there hawking their fine tables. And thus why Diamond partnered with them as authorized dealers, they are good for business.

Now, when the dealer sells a table, they call in the order to Diamond, pay them, and then Diamond sends and installs the table to customer. Thus, if I buy from Diamond directly or through a dealer, I'm getting the exact same install, correct?

If there is a problem down the road, I'm sure a dealer could point them to an authorized table installer or at least call Diamond for a list, no ?

And there lays the problem, a pool table no one is versed in working on, who for the most part can't even get it right on the tables that have been on the market all along. Its kind of like Brunswicks installer certification course in order to be factory authorized to work on their pool tables. Take a person who's never even set up one pool table, let alone installed the cloth on one, send the person to WATCH someone do a 4 hour demonstration of how to correctly set up, level, and install a Brunswick pool table. After WATCHING the course, the person is given a certification of passing the course and is from then on considered a certified installer....REALLY???? I've been in this line of work since September 1983, and I've trained a lot of installers in my time, and have yet to come across a student with no table mechanic back ground that could install cloth 100% correctly with less than a 100 tables of practice, and even tben still screw up after doing 200 tables. Mark Gregory and i talk about this all the time, and the best way to describe most, not all, but most of the so called table mechanics today which are pushing to be installers, "how much can i make, and how much can i get away with". So, putting out a new pool table like Diamond has, into an ignorant market place of so called table mechanics does what to better this industry? Want to hire a table mechanic to screw pool tables up, hire a factory trained table mechanic, because there is no such training courses. The only training that is done, is how to set up and install new pool tables, and in most cases even thats borderline as most installers are in a time crunch...."how much can i make....and how much can i get away with". I have trained Diamond in the art of gluing down the bed cloth with my system as to AVOID the spray glue, get er' done fast method of installing the bed cloths because its a joke, yet about 99% of all the Diamonds out here are having the cloth installed with spray glue, which results in loose cloth, slow playing tables....why?

So, if you buy a Diamond table from the factory or authorized dealer, you are rolling the dice that the guy doing the delivery/set up/install is just a crap shoot, and you might get a guy that does not know what they are doing? Sorry, but that does not seem logical, and surely, they have properly trained folks willing and able to install table expertly?

They obviously know what they're doing, but from the vantage point of a currently uninformed table buying newbie it would appear that a more traditional business model might serve them well.

Seems like I'm not the only one a little confused about the process.

Lol
What a mess.
Installing Simonis is rocket science.

And the 'authorized' part of authorized dealer can be had, apparently, without even knowing Diamond makes more than one model, judging by at least one cited experience in this thread.

Funny thing, people like you sure do like throwing that rocket science around, but i bet there isn't a rocket scientist on the planet that recovers their pool table at home if they own one. I delivered, set up & recovered a Diamond 7ft bar table for a nuclear physicist in Alamogordo New Mexico a while back, and as smart as he was, he didn't even want to attempt to do it himself....i know, cus i asked him if he wanted to do the work himself.... he replied hell NO, i want it done professionally!!!

Do you think if rocket ships to the moon were built with as much attention to detail as the cloth installed on these rails was done....the rocket ship would even get off the ground?

Here's a picture of a corner pocket cloth install my buddy just sent me, following someone elses work..... he thinks the table mechanic works on rockets in his spare time...LMAO

Yawn.
Tell that to the Diamond mechs you are putting down.
I guess you didn't learn what figure of speech is in school.

And there lies the problem, there isn't enough experienced table mechanics in this country to scratch a nats ass let alone service all the Diamond tables, or any other tables in the market place correctly, and that is why there's so many screwed up pool tables out here. I will say Diamond is the first manufacturer to see the aftermarket problem, but still has no clue how to fix it. No other manufacturers care, they'd be glad to sell you a new pool table when the one you bought gets turned into a pile of shit. All you have to do is look at all the Gold Crowns coming out of pool rooms that have closed down, they're torn up, beat to death, miss matched in parts and the whole 9 yards. But to all those that have always wanted a GC but could never afford one....there finally priced right, cheap! Until you buy one, then realize....wtf, this thing don't play like i remember them playing,....who do i call to fix it????? Guess what, for the most part, you'll end up calling the same ppl that basically destroyed them in the pool rooms in the first place....and this cycle all takes place because the factories that build the tables don't want them fixed up, they'd rather you buy new tables, then they can stay in business....they'd go broke if all the tables on the market were in great condition, because no one would need to buy a new table....LOL

My table manufacturer went out of business many years ago, but was still able to get a local, trained mechanic out to do a custom re-cushion and cloth.

Just some guy a few miles down the road.

Guess it helps when you only live a few miles from RealKingCobra's house?
