can i get opinons about gluing tips into place!??

Durro super gel......make sure it is the "gel" not the super glue. white and blue tube. sets up in about 1 minute. most cue repairmen use it, myself included.

Locktite Professional or 454 Gel is what I've most frequently seen recommended on the cue makers forum.

I use HotStuff available here at Lee Valley Tools. It bonds every kind of tip and you could, god forbit, throw the cue like a javelin through a wall and the tip would stay. I like it. Another great glue is Gorilla glue...same manufacturer.

I used to use the Quick Tight...that works well too.

I'd like to see THAT on YouTube!! 'See how your favorite tips hold up to real abuse!'

:D Hence the "god forbit" LOL. I will keep my cue right by my side! Plus, in high school I tried the javelin, I wasn't very good.

With layered tips, such as a Moori, I use Gorilla glue. To apply pressure I use three 5/8" rubber banks looped together and streched from the tip of the shaft to the joint. Since I'm not in a hurry I let that sit overnight. I then mount the shaft in my drill/cutch tip improvised lathe and trim the tip with a razor blade and shape it to dime curvature. Hope this is helpful.

I like Gorilla glue myself, a thin layer on the ferrule and the tip. Give it a few seconds to get tacky before applying the tip. If you're not in a hurry, you can turn the cue upside down and let it sit overnite on the tip. Just lean it carefully in a corner, as near to straight up as possible. It will work.

JAY, I got some Gorilla glue to use around the house. I opened the bottle, used about half of it, and then re-capped it and put it on a shelf behind a door. Six months later I went to use it again and the whole bottle had set up hard as a brick. What is the shelf life of this stuff and how do you prolong it?

That's the problem. To keep it moist, it must be stored in the armpit of the nearest gorilla. I knew you'd like that.

Actually, the same thing has happened to me. I remember good old Tweetens glue. Don't know if it's even available anymore. Probably the best bet is the LocTite Super Gel or Durro Gel glues, mentioned on here.

I use Instant Krazy Glue.

You can buy packages of four teenie tiny tubes that would probably glue two tips. Just use and throw away.

Glue for cue tips

I've been doing cue repairs for years and I use Loctite Super Glue GEL. It works great and it's available everywhere (drugstores, Walmart, K-mart, Lowes, Home Depot, etc.).

Jay Helfert, About Tweetens

Jay,

Yeah, I still use Tweetens as well. You gotta leave it clamped for 24 hours but I have tips on cues that have been there for 25 years without falling off and I use all the cues at least once a month. My 1987 Richard Black still has the Le Pro I put on it when I bought it. I have never had a tip put on with Tweetens that came off until I sanded it off. Although I am sure the Super GLue gels work just fine or everbody would not be using them.

You can still get Tweetens at any of the big wholesalers and it is always available at the Trade Show and at Allen's SBE in Valley Forge. I think I have used two tubes of it in 40 years.

See you at the US Open. And the Mosconi Cup is in your backyard this year at the MGM in Vegas. Will you be there?

loctite super glue gel! trust us! :) never failed a tip from popping off.

Hey! Ya great stuff. i carrie it in my bag but i've never needed it. Handy to have for anyone else though that needs a drop. A little trick of mine is to apply to both surfaces, work it around, then scrape off the excess like a drywall patch. Let that set up on both surfaces for a few minuts THEN add another drop (a little goes a long way here) before pressing on the tip. St.
