Can someone give me the layman's explanation for

Carom 1-Cushion billiards?

Any tips as well?

Thanks,
Mark

In 3-cushion, the shot scores when the cueball hits 3 or more rails before the carom is completed (2nd ball is hit by cueball. In 1 cushion, I believe you only score if only 1 rail is hit before the carom is completed, and 1 rail only, not 1 or more rails. It's a different game and is more difficult than it sounds.

The carom forum may have additional info but this is my understanding.

Dale scores...he is correct that one can normally score by striking additional rails.

And to clarify 3c, your cue ball must strike 3 or more rails prior to contacting the 3 rd ball.

Great games, those no pocket ones.

What do you know, you're only a state champion at pool!!!!!!! Congrats.

I stand corrected, but that seems so much easier.

There are numerous videos of the game on youtube.

Xavier Gretillat, Jean Paul de Bruijn, and Caudron all play the game at he highest level.

If you're starting with carom, I highly recommend you get the 2-DVD set from Kozoom done by Frederic Caudron. He demonstrates and explains all the disciplines with good runs at each.

Hints? Get the balls to the short rail. Practice kicks, especially soft kicks.
