Can someone help me understand the thought process behind these requests?

You still are not going head to head for pay per view. I believe the Nick Varner stream will be free.

That's interesting but not what I heard. Let's hope this is the case.

Let's also hope that, as I have done Justin in the past when I'm doing free streams during his PPV's, maybe TAR will also do POV a solid during the Varner event.

Been to the Rum Runner many times. I can count on one hand the top level pros I've seen there. It's really not an issue in this context.

How Many fingers you got?
Last Year's Pros at the Rum Runner!

Jeremy Jones
Max Eberle
Ronnie Alcano
Shane VanBoening
Ernesto Dominguez
Oscar Dominguez
Morro Paez
Sal Butera
Darren Appleton
Jayson Shaw
Rodney Morris
Mitch Ellerman
Stevie Moore
Carl Wilson, Jr.

Here's the complete bracket, incase you are curious to know who else.

POV Pool will be streaming the Rum Runner, LIVE and PPV! I just got off the phone with the venue owner and sealed it.

These two events will effectively put POV and TAR in direct competition for the first time for Pay Per View audiences. For the record, this is absolutely NOT what I want to do.

Timing is everything and this ain't it!

I don't see that much of an issue... one is Bar Tables the other is 9 ftrs... its like choosing between NASCAR and a Gran Prix.. both have cars and a track... but after that.....

edit: for me it is a good thing... I don't watch bar table events so I will now have an event to watch and if it is PPV ... $$'s that would not have made it into the pool streaming world .. now will... win/win

Well said Kevin
In order to get lots of big name Pro Pool players to your tournament with First place money in the $5K range a real effort of coordination needs to happen to make it cost effective for the players to attend.
Denver is not that far from Vegas so maybe have some owners get together and kind of work tour schedule out between the Pool Rooms/Bars.
If the Bar & Pool Room owners in the same geographical area would work together it would be to ALL their benefits.
Call it the West Coast swing tour, this way the players could group up and travel together sharing expenses such as car & hotel etc........
Maybe something like having:
LA
Swanee

Bay Area CA.
Chet Itow

Denver
Varner event

Vegas
Rum Runner

Vegas
BCA

Try to work it out between the Owners/Promoters to schedule these events on or near consecutive weekends. Anyway that's just an idea off the top of my head for getting Big name players to your events.

I like your idea but in order to have a 'Swing' with Str8 Shots there needs to be some coordination and professionalism. For the past 3 years, I have coordinated with all of the venue owners and promotors of each of those events except the 'Varner' event which is new, to get the timing perfect. You are also missing a couple of events and another one in 2015 called 'The Kamui Open' Event (TBA). This being said, coordination and timing is KEY!

The sad news is, that Str8 Shots hasn't spoken with me ONCE....EVER!

- A little inside info for you... When Mark Cantrill originally started working on the 'Varner' event, POV Pool was actually being slated to stream it. I, personally have had NO contact with Kimberlee and when Mark was 'let go' by Str8 Shots, they decided to go with TAR. I was also told that Str8 Shots mentioned to Mark that they didn't like me... that I was 'unprofessional'.

it's puzzling to me that a person can be deemed as unprofessional, when you have had no direct contact with them. I, of all people am an open book and will always answer my phone if you simply pick it up.

The only explanation I can think of for being viewed as unprofessional is, that I had a PPV event in Montana that they sponsored with Mark Cantrill with and there were some issues with the PPV service, during which time Str8 Shots couldn't log ing and they actually had to pay to watch their own stream. I refunded their money, of course, but it took a some time to do so, as I was on the road and also streaming the BCA Nationals immediately afterwards.

My only guess is that Str8 Shots basically deemed me useless, based on my lack of customer service or that because they had differences with Mr. Cantrill then POV was just guilty by association. Be that as it may, without proper coordination and communication, you basically end up with a 'he said/she said' scenario, where people end up getting thrown under the proverbial 'bus'.

I appreciate what Str8 Shots is trying to do for pool and am not trying to blast Kimberlee personally, but if you take the time to reach out and take a minute to discover who I really am as a person then I think you'll find things will go a lot smoother. I can't stand it when people assume the worst of people without finding out for themselves.

That's awesome, Ray!
Free streams are free streams. The one point that I'd like to make is, that when free streams occur at the same time as a PPV Stream, that the free streamer should always be willing to promote the PPV stream as a courtesy. I believe that this is the only way to have unity amongst our companies.

Ray, I'm happy to pick up where we left off 3 years ago, after our relationship was intervened on.

One thing I have figured out about pool is running tournaments is a thankless job.

yea what he said

I see I was quoted earlier in a post, don't get me wrong, some PRO PLAYERS, that I will name do help events when asked, shane vanboening, Melissa little, mark haddad, corey , john morra, chip, warren, and a few have others have attended our tournament in north Dakota and when here , they were happy to talk to the average player, taking their time to answer questions, sign autographs, play matches with anyone who asked. I m just saying some players that I wont name , when invited to our tournament wanted everything paid, why would we pay them when we didn't pay shane and them. pro , not pro, promoter , business owner, when they were asked to help promote, exhibition, teach, clinic , they declined. we have in the past comped or paid the above players because they helped us promote, or just by them attending was a draw and other players came just for the chance to play them or see them play, bringing value to our event and casino. we don't make money putting on this tournament and work hard to provide a event , none of our committee is paid, we are not a pool hall or business. we do this event so their is a event players can play in .

why would a company go around and check with every other company doing similar stuff to see if its ok with them if they sell their product? ??? Are u bonkers... is it ok if kamui chalk sells their chalk in the same states as master chalk does

I'll take a stab at this one.

When you are promoting pool events you check around to try and not stack events on top of each other so players will have the opportunity to attend all of them.

People that cover pool for a living are excellent people to check with because it's our business to know where the events are and often we know far in advance of the general public. Especially if we are promoting them too.

Not the same as chalk sales.

You completely missed the point of what I was saying...

jmurphy made a suggestion that Str8 Shots could maybe sponsor or coordinate with other sponsors to create a 'tour' of sponsored events that all 'Swing' together. The events which jmurphy happened to bring up, are events that I have been involved with. I was merely providing jmurphy with some feedback within the context of his suggestion.

I didn't once say that people needed to ask 'permission'. I was emphasizing the need for timing.

And once again, I'm not trying to 'bash' Kimberlee. Admittedly, I was hurt to hear certain things being said about me through a 3rd party, but that's exactly how I have to look at it as well. '3rd Party' information - 'He said/She said'.

I'll state this and again, remind you that it's within the context of jmurphy's post:

If there is to be a tour of already established events that I happen to have worked with and Str8 Shots would like to attach to, then Str8 Shots is either going to have to work with me directly or throw more $$ at the problem and find a replacement streamer.

Hypothetically speaking~

Excellent and thank you!

I did not read all posts, so I apologize if this is repeating what someone else said or contradictory (not trying to cause dispute). Also, very rough numbers and someone can correct if I am way off base just please be kind ;) Just trying to share my thought process looking at it from a financial risk assessment POV.

When I look at this from making money to live perspective...you need to finish high to get enough money to cover all expenses. Assuming that a person arrives the day before (to get a good night rest) and leaves the day after that is 5 nights and after room taxes and all that, let's just simplify and say $100 a night. That is $500 expense. Add round trip air fair...i don't know...$500 round trip on the cheap side? up to $1000 in expense. Now add a very conservative $30/day for meals (including on travel days) and that is another...round down....$200. Up to $1200 in expense. Now add entry fee, greens fees et al...

At this point, a person would need to place in the top three just to break even. The person that places 1st makes 2-3K profit? for 1 week of work while everyone else loses money. On the surface, 2-3 K profit is nice...but how far does that go? How is a pro tourney player going to have any life balance with a family or be able to spend time at a place called home? And, what if they don't win, what do they rely on to pay bills? If they have a day job, they are taking time off work...

Unless someone wants to live out of a suitcase and always can take first, seems hard to make a living off of tourney winnings alone. How many tourney players could there actually be that actually can make a living that way with only so many tournaments and only a few that can place high enough to cover expenses?

What's more, tournament directors and tournament referees make more money at a pool tournament than 95 percent of ther field. Welcome to American pool.

Is there some popular American sport where this isn't the norm?

I just checked NFL and MLB and the average ref makes more than the average player in both.

My bad, I was dividing pro players salary by games, and not the refs.

It's hard to compare those sports salaries to any officials salary those sports are over paid way to much.
