I would say he is right with some clears, but not many. If it has no reaction with your clear then use it on your cues, but I would say it is risky on cues with unknown finish. My guess is that any that it dulls could be buffed right back up to a shine, unless it is UV finish. Then normal lathe buffing techniques won't work.

Chris if norman lathe buffing won't work on UV coatings, what will? Thanks for you input.

You have to buff it on a buffing wheel instead of the lathe.

can windex

Not to sound stupid, but what does it matter if the cue is turning or the buffing wheel is turning. I have both and they seem to work identically.
If not windex, then what do you guys use when the fingerprints get out of hand. Getting ready for Hopkins and want to take something to touch up between all the beer and nacho stickies.

I like orange scented Pledge. Never thought about Windex but I don't think I would try it.

Auto detailing spray. I use a brand called Poorboys Spray & Wipe. Great stuff as it's made to wash a car without using any water or soap. www.poorboysworld.com Just a small company owned by a guy in West Nyack NY. Great products!! and the kind of service you'd expect from a guy who wants his small company to someday go world-wide.

Automotive spray an shine works well, guitar polish also works well. Pledge would be my last choice,

The difference is the real hard UV finishes won't buff with normal buffing material. You have to use the hard sticks on a buffing wheel instead of the cream buffing material we use on regular clear coats.

Nice 'Gimmick' for a booth.

How about providing a few tubes of wet-nap handwipes for folks to use before they handle the cues? I'm sure most people would appreciate the chance to remove a few hours worth of accumulated grime from their hands. On second thought, take more than a few, because once people find out you have them, you might get a lot of "drive-by" action. It's still flu season after all, and there's no easier place to get sick than a convention.

Not a bad idea on the wipes, don't have to worry about the flu germs, if the smoke don't kill them the alcohol breaths will. Chris, Menzerna makes a paste that will buff out the hardest UV. But you are probably right on the really hard stuff, the buffing wheel is easier.

The windex will make window tint on car windows wrinkle up but that is the only thing I have ever heard in the auto industry for 35 years that it bothers. A friend in auto painting shop says there no-no is silicone like in wd 40 or armour all. Leonard

Good idea!

There is also a product called 'Orange' by Kroger (Dillons has it too) that
is made entirely from oranges that works well. I clean my cues with this, and then use Pledge on them..... Works like a charm.

what's the yen to use anything but a clean rag to buff the cue?????

do you guyz clean your cues like once every five years or something? :)

Where can I get a little of this stuff?

windex

Chris,
Grizzley has the menzerna paste and sticks.
As to using a soft cloth, would work if only you handled your cue, but you can't believe the stuff that gets on them at shows.
