Can you spot where the "round points" end and the "Sharpee'd points" begin?

I see that the point has been colored in at the tip to look like a spliced proing. Some times the seller is not aware that a cue has been doctored up. This could really be a honest mistake by the seller.
Honest mistakes do happen. That is why a satisfaction gaurantee is always nice. Perhaps you should have just called and worked it out.
Nick :)

Thank You Nick and your right if he would have called it would have been worked out . I dont think the points have been messed with as the Schon R2 has the dashed ringwork same as this cue . I got the cue from Magix here on the forums as an R2 who is a great friend . He give his input tomorrow . I sent him a pm with this link . I cant wait to show this cue to Even Clarke and see what he says . But as far as I know stl4's have round points and single silver ringwork . Nothing like the dashed ringwork and sharp points on this cue .

I will issue a refund less $40 shipping cost . Yes I have proof that it cost me $40 to ship express mail to Canada .

This could have been settled with a lot less hassle .

Thanks ... Larry

Re: R2 Schon
No worries bud, I like the cue.. I just think it was overpriced since you said it was a mint condition runde era schon. Mint is totally different from newly refinished.

I liked the cue before I saw the sharpee'd points. I knew it wasn't a runde era schon as you claimed coz the pin and buttcap are fairly new, the points are significantly longer than my old R12. Evan Clarke did say that it is 18-20 yrs old and they just recently refinished it. I was gonna suck it up and take the loss, even if I know that it is not for real, but when I saw the sharpee'd points I was just disgusted. I filed a dispute on paypal this morning asking for a full refund.

Im pretty sure Stl4's were not made 18-20 years ago .

They were making rounded points in the early 90's, which is ironically close to the previously specified date....

Why would a buyer pay for the shipping cost of an item if it was misrepresented during sale? I will ship it back to you at my expense, at the same level of service you sent it to me. Just give me a full refund.

i don't mean to create another issue but imo you should also include the shipping. it's up to YOU to know what you're selling not the buyer. any repercussions that cascade down from a sale should be cleaned up by the seller...............

skins ------------ is at fault when in charge..............

This line is very confusing to me.

I would think that the points would have had to have been "sharpied" in when the finish was off the cue, ie, during a refinish. You said here that Evan Clark said they did a refinish recently on the cue. Is he the one who "sharpied" the points, or is the sharpie ink on top of the finish.

I only ask because if Evan refinished the cue, it is very confusing for the points to have been sharpied. I see what you see, but when was it done?

i was in DALLAS about 20 yrs ago and was about to buy a 6 pt (mpl into mpl w/single blk lam) SW when a local advised me the "points" were sharpied. Jellied him up for helping me dodge a bullet...

The "artist" drew the points and then the cue was refinished by a couple popular, local cue makers.

Ever since i carefully examine pre-date mpl into mpl cues.

Ok your right if I have described this cue wrong and its not an R2 then I will also pay the shipping . We will see what Even Clarke has to say whem I drive up to him . I am not going to be out $80 shipping for having did nothing wrong.

Some one please tell me when they made round points with dashed ringwork . Any pictures or model numbers ?

I sent him an email tonight asking if he remembers refinishing this particular cue. I will wait for his response and send him the pics of the points.

i'm pretty sure they never did. they started using silver in late 1985. as well dashed ringed shafts didn't have the "Schon" logo printed on them either if my memory serves me correctly......

skins ------------ could be wrong but doesn't think so........

I was wondering the same thing. Looked in "Blue Book," and it stated Schon started marking shafts in 1993.

Good...let us know what he says.

I have to honestly say that I could have personally have been fooled by the points on this cue, if I had purchased it. I doubt that I would ever have noticed the ends of the points having been sharpied in (I don't know how obvious it is in person, though). If I had bought the cue or got it in a trade for resale, and it looked great, having just been refinished, etc, I doubt that I would have checked the points out...plus, my eyes don't work that well up close. I would simply have assumed that everything was right with the cue from a cursory inspection, put it on the lathe to see if it was straight, and that would have been that.

I mean, once you pointed it out, I could easily see it in the enlargement, but if I was not looking for it......

FWIW i've owned Schon's w/dash rings and cnc points. IMO the buyer is due a full refund ( to include shipping) if the cue was sold as a spliced (sharp) pointed cue when in fact the points are inlaid and modified. i don't think mdl # is as important as the construction method. It's easy to see how that detail can be missed as the cue changes hands.

I just got a pm from a well respected member of the forum who sold a cue to this same buyer and went through the same headache . I hope and prey he will post his story here .

Here is my post when I sold it .

Here is a very nice Schon R2 in fantastic shape . Other than a little blueing on the shaft its like new . I was shocked for a cue of this age the condition it was in .

Comes with one shaft 13mm . It is around 19.5 - 20 oz I cant check that I dont have a scale .

I looked it up in the blue book its on page 707 it says that in 98% condition its worth $850 - 90% condition its worth $640

Well its better than 90% but not 98% cuz of the slight shaft blueing .

THIS CUE HAS BEEN SOLD THANKS

Thanks ....... Larry
