Can't Sleep After Competing....Help!

Do the same thing all the time before bed............

I have been having this problem for a while now:

When I go out and compete, when I finally get home and try to go to bed - I can't sleep. The balls will not come to a stop in my head...they just keep rolling and rolling and colliding into each other and the rails, and the break shot is so loud in my head, then I start seeing the dead combos that are lined up, then it's the missed shots, then it's the great shots, and on and on and on.

The other night I played so horrible (worst I can remember) that I NEVER even fell asleep at all. I lied in bed from 1 to almost 7 o'clock with not even a wink of sleep. But even when I play good, or just okay, I have a hard time sleeping.

Typically, I don't drink when I play pool but about the only thing I can come up with to help me unwind is to get a drink right before I call it quits.

I don't know...what do you guys do to unwind when you're done playing?

You need to keep it consistent. Plus there are a few tips that I use myself.

I always sleep with a fan. About 4 months ago I found this little item that makes the sound of a waterfall. A big waterfall. A fan can do the same thing. This way you get used to sleeping as soon as you hear this sound. Plus it drowns out other sounds at a motel that might be waking you up and there are alot of them.

Take some melatonin. It's a natural sleep hormone. it will hep you get to sleep.

Alcohol might seem to help get to sleep but it screws up your sleeping patern the same way it screws up you awake patern.

If you drink when you play at your local bar you need to drink when you play all the time to be consistent.. Many players that drink when playing most of the time when they play have trouble playing without the liquid tranquilizer.

Stay off the computer for one hour before you go to bed. That is ten times worse than any pool shot memory that you might have. That intense light tells your mind it's time to be awake not to metion all the other images you might look at and think about.

Bottom line. When your done shooting just go to bed. And no food 2 hours before you go to bad. Your body needs to reset itself and do it's natural cleansing. It can't do it's job right if there is food in the pipes. This is common knowledge in the health industry.

Just some good tips. These are not just thoughts but these are things i do to take care of my sleep when I'm at a tourny.

The problem is though that most 2 day tournys they don't let you have enough time to sleep before the next day especially if your on the losers side.

Good luck geno........

I received 3 hours of sleep last night because a bad roll cost me a game. Needless to say, I completely understand this problem. For me, it is definitely worse if I play bad. I constantly replay shots in my head. If it is real bad, I pop two tylenol pm's. That usually helps, but can leave you groggy in the a.m.

For me, after a big match, win or lose, good shots and misses from the game will play in my head over and over for the rest of the day or sometimes longer. It feels like my mind is trying to burn them into memory.

One thing I started doing was drawing out the shots as detailed as possible, with notes about the game situation, my thoughts at the time, etc. Put everything on paper helps me get those images out of my head, and as a bonus, the notes are really useful when practicing.

just last night had a 14.1 match. and prior to the game, my practice was perfect. firing them in etc....when it was time for the match i couldn't make any frigging shots! like, WTF? normally my bed time is 10 pm or so and the game was over by that time....my opponent asked if i wanted to play some 8 ball, i did and played a little better. but i still do not understand what happened after 1 hour of practice and the match?????
so i got home about 11 pm and took all that to bed, after more than an hour of thinking about the match i still had no idea of what went wrong. still thinking about it now along with going to the ebay site and put my stuff up for sale! ;)

The first time a few years ago I won a tournament and cash I couldn't sleep, then even matches I lost I can not stop thinking bout till the next day I'm on the table practicing what I did wrong
