Capone vs. Nitti

Like everything else , people will prefer what they own so your not going to get much usefull info.

They both make great cues inside and out. I work with Nitti so of course I'm biased as well but I do currently own some of each. IMO , Capones are slightler more 'firm' whereas to me Nitti has slightly more 'feel'. Both can offer similar joints and materials whcih will fine tune the 'hit' to your liking so it really comes down to personal preference. Capones are little bigger name and might cost you more up front but get you more later. So , you might get more bang for your buck from Nitti up front.

No wrong answer either way IMO.

I don't work with either and I don't own either. But I've owned and played with cues from just about every recognizeable and/or big name out there. Szam, Searing, Hercek, Bender, Scruggs, Manzino, White, South West, Schick, Mottey, etc.

I've also played with a few cues from both Capone AND Nitti. And here's my take for what its worth:

Both cuemakers make great cues. Both make a solid product with good playability/feedback. If I were going to spend the money on either, I think based on some of the stuff I've seen coming out of his shop in the last year or so, I'd choose Nitti. Chris is doing some amazing work these days and while playability from either cuemaker is subjective, I'd rate the at the same level.

But Chris seems to have stepped up his design AND execution in the past few months, making some REALLY impressive looking cues.

they both kind of stick to the same style but i think mike capone cues look better. i've never hit with either so i can't comment on how they play

Big Al, or Snarky as we called him, was a far better leader of the Chicago Outfit than Frank. But the all time greatest was Little Johnny Torrio.

When discussing Capone we really need to break it down to pre-prison/syphilis and post-prison/syphilis. Al's work declined significantly after he went to prison and when the syphilis kicked his work was pretty warped.

Did he get syphilis in jail?

I agree. He's been so involved with Cue shows the last couple years that no one in the public has really seen what he's capable of curently. All his real high end stuff is going straight into collections as of late.

This is just a small sample of his latest stuff . . .

I have a thread on it in the gallery for more detail.

jdelcue,

Not to take anything away from Capone, as his cues are fantastic, but I prefer Nitti cues. IMHO his work is some of the best in the world. Plus he's the nicest guy around. I own 4 of his cues and soon to be 5. For me (in my limited experience with cues) compared to everything else I've hit with, I think his cues hit and play the best.

At the end of the day though, what you like the best is what's important. Good luck with your decision.

If you really want to find out which is best for you, go to the SBE in Valley Forge next march. The Capone and Nitti booths are usually right next to each other and you can look at their cues at the same time.

I have never hit with a Nitti cue, but I have heard they are good. They definitely look good.

I purchased a Capone cue several years ago without ever hitting with one. Since then, I have purchased two more. That should tell you something.
