Captain wont share scoresheet or info on opponent

Thanks!

Thanks for all the great comments, I definitely like the idea of printing out my own score sheet, Im going to do that, should make for a great laugh. He is a complete tool. I think the only reason the guys put up with it is because he does everything and none of us have to do anything. I tried the first week to keep score for him while he shot but he gave me shit because I asked the other score keeper "Hey what do you have?" He had the same thing as I did but Captain Tool told me you don't ask, you're suppose to know the score. I in my mind I thought I do but Im making sure were both on the same page. Instead of *****ing about it I just never kept score again, like everyone else on the team. The best part about it is last session we lost first place after we were told we won. The reason is the team we beat caught our Captain cheating on the score sheet, they had the sheet recounted and we lost by two points.

Thanks for all your advice. It just hit me that I cant stand playing pool with this guy so much that Im thinking and typing about it the next day at work. Whats wrong with that picture? Im going to finish the season and make plans to find another new team. Great Forum, thanks again!

first off anyone that thinks knowing your opponents speed or the way he plays isnt important doesnt understand any sporting event. how you play shots and what shots you take are partially determined by how your opponent plays. if you dont know this you are missing alot of the use of skills that others use..

if the captain is a bully just get the others if they feel the same way to start a new team without him. or everyone sits him down and puts him in his place.

Your captain is a control freak. There is nothing you can do other than either leave or replace him. He will not change so don't waste your time and emotional energy on a suggestions of how to change his behavior.

This is common of people in "leadership" positions, especially unpaid, volunteer positions. Unfortunately no one else usually wants to do the work...so it's easy for a control freak to get -- and keep -- the position.

He thinks everyone is sandbagging, most likely because he is. He basically a control freak without any social skills. I've only been the league here for 6 months, most of these guys and women in the league have been playing together or against each other for 5 to 20 years. I know everyone cant stand him but they've been dealing with him for so long I think they just have accepted his BS.

Punch him in the face!!!! Then look at the score sheet!!!

If he says anything when he gets up,,punch him in the face again!!! lmao

Your captain is the head cheerleader. You're upset because she won't tell you which boy is going to be holding you up at halftime at the next football game. Did I get it right?

You're worrying about crap that doesn't really affect how you play the game. If you really NEED to know the skill level of your opponent, I'd be inclined to say you're doing a mindjob on yourself at league. Just play the table. Pool isn't a game where winning or losing depends on how good your opponent is. It's all on how you decide to play THE TABLE. The table isn't assigned a skill level, is it?

By any chance are you playing APA in Kentucky? Where they have captains that are SL3 for 18-25 years and win the lag and break and run out when I played him in VEGAS?

Just Wondering
I think I played that captain at the APA Nationals!!

Shawn you sound like you have some real issues. The Captain is a complete tool, thanks to everyone else on here, I realized that his behavior is total bullshit and I shouldn't put up with it.

CreeDo, just show the poor man the scoresheet!!!

fine christ, look he's a 5 ok?
His name is Phil McCracken and he's a 5.

He plays in BCA also on Tuesday and he has a girlfriend named Shawna.
He's using on OB2 shaft on a BK2 butt and he had 3 Jager bombs earlier.
His shoes are size 11.

Don't worry bro you got this!

19 years and a skill level 4...lol what did i just read?

You'd figure after 19 years you'd at least have hit millions of balls, enough to go up to a 5,
even if you never learned how to control whitey.

This would normally be correct except in a situation where the handicaps can influence your strategy. I know I play different depending on whether I think someone can run a few balls or run out or if they'll have a hard time running 2. In that sense I don't think you can treat every opponent exactly the same.

Well, you have me there, I do tighten up and play more conservative vs. tougher opponents.
Duck in situations where I normally shoot.
I'd like to think that whatever choices I'd make vs. SVB, would also let me win vs. some random APA4.
But maybe it's backwards. Maybe my only hope vs. SVB is aggression and if I safe carefully vs.
the APA4 he'll just shit something in more often.

I've tried leagues twice. Both times, the main focus of the team captains was winning. They didn't care if people didn't have a good time... as long as they won, all was right with them.

Long story short, I no longer play leagues. I have a much better time playing in local tournaments. The strange thing is that the tournaments I play draw a higher skill level of player than the leagues do. Even still, the tournament players and I have a lot more fun than the league players do.

Sometimes people just take themselves too seriously.

This shouldn't be a debate on whether it is good for your game or not to know your opponents skill level. If he wants to see the fricken score sheet let him see the score sheet.

Yeah, you're the guy posting to a newsgroup, seeking validation as to whether your captain is a douche or not, and I'm the one with issues.

Based on the fact you're over 40, I'd call your mom and ask if she could send you a spine.

Maybe Dr. Phil would host you and your league team....

I wish there was like a national franchise like the apa, but that just ran tournaments and not leagues. I have no idea, how that business plan would make money though.

I think the OP is focusing on something that really isn't important, in the larger scheme of things. I played leagues to play pool. Not to ***** and whine about people, their handicaps, or how my captain runs a team.

If he doesn't like the team, LEAVE. There's no quorum needed to vote out the captain of the team. This isn't an episode of Suits. He's an adult. 40-41, judging by his screen name. He's played league for 19 years, and this is the first time he's encountered a douchebag captain?

I think the captain has been in the league for 19 years not the op. Maybe the op is somewhat new to pool leagues and hasn't run across a guy like this before? To you, it might be old hat but to him new. He's not giving out the captains first and last name nor being rude to anyone so what's the big deal? I mean is there anything in the whole forum really that important?

So let me get this straight. You believe it is acceptable for the captain to hide the skill level of the person you are playing against?

You should read the whole thread. The guy who played for 19 years is the asshat captain... not the guy who made this thread. He also said he is leaving the team. He also never *****ed about skill levels. He just wanted to gauge the speed of his opponent. Perfectly reasonable.
