Carbon Fiber with draw.....Measles vs Red Circle

odd ball

It seems pretty clear that your experience with the measle ball isn't the same as most, including me. I have one that is ten years old or so. When I played with it I didn't notice any big difference in draw between it and the red circle cue balls used at that hall. It rolled long though, the reason I don't play with it.

The measle ball seemed to play heavy so I would guess five to ten percent less draw, nothing huge. I think the answer to the measle ball playing differently is that the manufacturing process is different from a standard ball. I understand a clear coat is put on these balls, something I read long ago. However they do it this would affect the curing process, I don't know that the clear coat is identical to the other resins or whatever the proper term for cue ball material is.

The measle ball is different, one shouldn't be as different as you are finding. Either something bogus about that ball or it is getting into your head. Can you have other people try it? Should give you a quick answer.

FWIW, I think the MB SUCKS!

I have played with several of them that belong to my friends and every one of them played "lighter" than my Red Triangle ball, even though the MBs were larger in diameter.

I can draw the MB way easier than I can draw my Red Triangle. That is one of the reasons I don't like it. I get way too much action on the ball.

My friends say that my ball is "too heavy" and doesn't let them move the ball as easily as their MBs do.

Sorry about the delay in posting, life gets in the way sometimes. There is a little cat action halfway through if you need a laugh.

I can tell you right now that now that your test is flawed. You’re just arbitrarily lining up. No repeated setting of the ball to ensure consistency. Visually it looks as if you’re trying to get more draw out of the measles, but not hitting as low as you need. The red circle looks like you’ve calmed your stroke down and are hitting the bottom of the ball better. Discrepancies I see easily, that affect the legitimacy of results.

This has been my experience. Since I returned to pool a measle ball is what I’ve been using. Been going to a pool hall lately with red circle cue balls. I find they have more action and roll faster. I suspect it weighs slightly less and may be smaller.

I think it's your cloth or the way it's stretched. The red circle has a different finish on it than the measles ball and it's clearly gripping better with back spin on your cloth.

I suggest trying the same test on a couple of tables in the pool hall to see if you get the same results. All of mine go about the same distance on my relatively new Simonis but I have experienced the same thing, where the red circle gets more draw action, on different tables.
